Ari and I were standing behind the curtains, my heart was racing. Just after the curtains was a stage like that of performing live shows in theatres I would be presented before Keith and his cousin like a queen who had conspired against her kingdom. We could hear some vampires performing on stage and more other down below the platform cheering and praising them. There came an applause, my heart went wild and I began sweating. I wiped my hands on the red gown.
“Relax Becky, there is another performance before we are the ones to be on stage” Ari who was in a pink gown said.
“Where is Grey?” I asked my red lips trembling badly.
“He is around don’t worry”
A bunch of human girls dressed in scary-creepy costumes walked past us towards the stage. The performance began in no time, I was feeling sick with worry already. Sweat trickled down my forehead, Ari busied herself to wipe it out.
“Please Becky, stop tensing. You will ruin your make up” she said helplessly.
“I can’t…” my explanation was cut short by a heavy thud and something suddenly landing on the ground before us. I squealed seeing the small cracks on the floor. The small female figure in a hot pink gown lifted her head sharply. My heart dropped to my stomach.
“Sorry I scared you”
“Gosh, Sandy you were about to give me a heart attack” I placed my hand on my chest dramatically
“Don’t worry, next time I will send a warning” she rose to her feet dusting her hands “You are so white, you freaked out about what would happen? Don’t worry, he can’t let you die”
“I hope so. You are so beautiful, like Sofia the first. You look like a princess” she smiled sweetly
“And you look like her. Always stunning, but you are more stunning” she patted my cheeks childishly.
“Who are you two talking about?” Ari asked, Sandy and I exchanged looks and smiled
“Our little secret” we said in unison shrugging
“I see you two are comfortable with each other.” She nodded knowingly.
“She saved my role model. I like her so much” Sandy pecked my cheek
“Why are you never cosy with me like that” Ari was only joking.
Sandy shrugged dramatically “Don’t worry baby girl, there is always a next time” she laughed and giggled as she walked away with a childish wave. She made me feel a lot better.
“You are lucky if Sandy likes you. Young vampires are the most dangerous since their abilities are not fully known or even developed. You are the luckiest human I have ever seen”
I was about to comment when a growl caught my ear. I looked around and caught three pairs of sparkling eyes near the changing booth.
“Ben, Reni…Lily. What are you guys doing here” I ran towards them and went on my knees. I hugged each one of them.
Ben wanted to see you
Lily answered and from the look of things Ari heard it too. “Ben, come on you like me already?” I asked him. He licked my face and wagged his tail.
You can be his guardian
It was Reni suggesting. “No” I rose to my feet turning away from them “I know you understand what is going on. I might die today or soon”
We won’t let that happen to you
I turned quickly to face them “No please, Reni don’t get yourself involved. I want you out of trouble I can’t drag you along. Promise me you will keep out of trouble”
I will try but I can’t promise
“It is almost time Becky” Ari called
“I have to go now, bye guys” I shoved them off and they slowly walked into the darkness. I rushed towards Ari’s side and took her hand. The host asked for an applause for the performance then said.
“Finally, the time we all have been waiting for is finally here” my heart leaped to my throat “I will like to present to you with honour the human girl, actually…the first human girl to survive for so long after capture despite being from the Gala” my knees buckled “You might question why she is still alive. She happens to have the witches’ hand mark on her back” the congregations gasped “I know it is surprising ha! So, she is here today for her judgement over making one of us be killed by the master of this coven; Dermot Grey!” God he is in trouble again.
“Her name is Becky…” knots in my stomach tightened “Gala hue” I wanted to visit the rest rooms now “Ladies and gentlemen…” god save my life “let me represent to you…” why did I have to die this way? “Becky Gala hue!”
Here we go now, I tightened the grip on Arianna’s hand as the curtains were slowly lifted and the spot light directed on us as we walked towards the stage. I could smell anger and vengeance in the atmosphere, it was sickening and scary. The high table was to the left, there was Steel and two companions dressed like ancient princes. Behind them sat Adelyn and Jayden. The rest of the room was filled with vampires dressed in different designs of gowns and suits. The room was generally beautiful and glowing minus the vampires that were staring at me cold bloodedly. I swallowed as the vampire driving the show showed up on stage. Unlike the others, he looked calm chummy and no one could tell his feelings.
“Here she is, beautiful but very dangerous” some vampires nodded while the others whispered at each other.
“Very true indeed” a vampire called from the high table.
“That is Arthur, beside him is Keith Harvins” Ari whispered.
“So…we all as vampires are going to decide what to do with her. In this case we are not considering the birthmark at all. We could say Antonio, is too late.” Everyone in the room nodded in agreement, I wanted to disappear “We all suggest then Keith who was wronged will finalize”
“Wait a minute Shem, where is Grey himself?” Keith asked bossily
“Dying on his death bed” Shem answered as one could answer a cop when he is the one in trouble.
Keith laughed evilly, his laughter boomed so loudly in the ball room that it send chills down my spine.
“See who is winning now Grey” he laughed again then suddenly stopped “I would like to hear her voice before she is dead, right cousin?” he patted his partner
“Sure cousin”
His gaze shifted towards my face, gosh how could such a handsome fellow be this disgusting? He was bending over the table like a blood thirst vampire “So Becky, how do you feel now that a vampire, my own brother was killed because of you?”
What was I to answer? I didn’t dare look at his face “Stupid…” god, I was whispering. “I feel stupid” I raised my voice
“Sure you are, and why do you say so?”
“Because am a simple human am nothing compared to a mighty vampire!” I answered in his favour, only for my benefit.
“Lovely, she turns out to be a silent killer. Which blood group is she Steel?” He turned to Steel.
“Blood Group O, master Harvins” he answered with all due respect.
Keith grinned “O, the sweetest. Because ‘O’ humans are very generous, they can give away all they got for anyone. I would like a taste but not now…after we have decided on how to destroy her. Go ahead Shem” he sat back, his eyes still fixed on me. Please come on you damn ground, open up and swallow me.
“Time to hear out you suggestions guys” no wonder they are not humans, they are so heartless. You could think I was a priceless diamond on sale!
“We should crucify her in a freezer” a female called
“Yeah, naked and upside down of course” another female added sipping on her wine glass.
“Let’s make her eat hot coal” a male called
“Or throw her in a crater of an active volcano” another one said
“We should drown her and watch her fight for her dear life”
“Chop off her limbs and leave her to die”
I was chocking, I wanted to throw up. Fear was making me sick.
“Nail every part of her body, then make her walk on hot nails” I winced at the words.
“Why don’t we have it the mob way, so everyone can have a chance to send her to her creator” was that even thought of before it was said?
“Use her for bow and arrow training, as the target”
“Boil her in hot water” Jesus! Were they preparing to have me for dinner afterwards?
“Spear her to death”
“Or rape her to death!” that was Arthur, yeah sure…this vampire was a complete pervert.
“She could be our human dog”
“I can have her as a pet” go find a monkey, cat or dog you idiot that female was unreasonable…a pet?
“She could be my concubine” that was definitely another pervert speaking “Don’t you think she is too beautiful to die?” he added salt to the wound
“Why don’t we torture her to death? She will have felt the pain she deserves to feel”
The suggesting went on, the laughing debating and murmuring. On my side, I was feeling sick…I wanted to throw up. I was also tired of standing. I couldn’t imagine all those awful suggestions that were being made were things they were planning to do to me. Why am I here in the first place?
Grey, it is all his fault, I hadn’t asked him to kill that vampire for attacking me. He could have just hit him and threatened him and that would be it. Now look at me, I looked like Osama Bin Laden (if he had been captured like I was maybe…)
“This is making me feel sick” I said to Ari
“Me too, but we can do nothing about it, be still. Don’t raise any suspicion”
“They speak like typical anti-humans. Has this ever happened” I asked straining to keep my lips still.
“Long ago, before I joined the coven. It happened to a Gala soldier who killed a vampire outside Flames coven. He died badly”
“What happened to him?” I asked cautiously
“Keith suggested they cut a single part of his body every day, till he gives up on living. He was a fighter…he died a complete mess”
“Last suggestion” Shem called.
“Why waste an O human when we are hungry, we should drain her veins” others nodded
“Good choice” Keith nodded “and I go first”
Shem extracted a knife from his belt, a human waiter handed him a wine glass. Oh no, not my hands that were healed just the other day. I was not escaping this, now it dawned on me…they were damn serious about having me dead!
Ari let go of my hand slowly and stepped back, I was alone. Shem took it, his own was ice cold. He did not even look at me, he began lowering the knife towards my wrist. I closed my eyes, fighting would be useless. Suddenly the knife cluttered on the ground. Then the sweetest voice rung in my ears.
“I thought I had made myself clear, no one is to drink from her except me!”
Everyone in the room gasped. Grey!
