I kept walking, going down the last set of stairs, I began moving along the corridor. All I could do was to head to the faint distant voice calling for me desperately. My eyes were open but nothing was clear to me, everything was dissolved in its colour, looking like piles of dust. The voice was becoming clearer now, shallow and more urgent. I wanted to tell whatever was calling me to wait up, not to worry that I was moving to its rescue as fast as I could.
I was there, I got where the voice was coming from. It was a form of a cloud a thick black cloud that was still. I looked deeper into it, I could see white, something like a white cloth covering a small shaky body. The voice came again, urgent that’s when I stretched out my hand to reach for it. Instead of coming into contact with a body, my wrist was roughly grabbed.
My eyes shot open to find a bare chested Grey looking down at me angrily. His large hand curled around my wrist, my hand was only inches away from his chest. Something was wrong, very wrong and I could feel it.“What are you doing here?” he asked furiously his gaze intent on me. I began shivering.
“I…I…I…” I could make no words from my mouth and my mind was super blank.
“Go back to your room or I will knock you dead right here” he demanded, releasing my hand stepping into the room and slamming the door closed.
I began moving immediately, walking but having no idea where to. When I came to a corridor that was dark and weirdly silent, I began walking back. I had crossed Grey’s room at least twice when he jumped out of the room grabbing my wrist violently. I thought he was going to hurt me I jerked back, but he only tightened his hold.“I am …I...I…" I was at loss of words, what was I to say anyway?
“Am finding it for you” he dragged me along his speed fast not minding about my slow pace. In a second, I was standing outside my so called room, he shoved me inside.
“Stay in there if you don’t want me to suck your veins dry!” his voice was dangerous.
“Grey, I…
“Master Dermot” and he slammed the door shut.
I stood there, frozen blank headed, what just happened was unexpected. What happened to him? He was okay he was smiling, playful getting better from his dark mood. I have not seen him for a week, he had not visited and I don’t have the guts to find his room. I had no idea where it was.
I only saw him once and that’s when he came to pick me up for questioning in front of the council. He said nothing to me that day, but he looked okay. Just silent. He had asked the guy who brought me to this room to bring me back and from then, I have heard nothing from him. Ari also stopped talking about him to me and that was it. Was he okay?
If Ari and he start behaving coldly towards me, yet they are the two people I took as companions while I was still here. Then what would happen to me. I walked back till I came into contact with the bed I sat down still confused.
Dreaming about the voices calling me, was the norm and I had resisted the urge to get out of bed and be led by an unknown force to wherever the voices were. Today, I could not resist it, it was urgent and so small I could not resist it. I had no idea I was to end up in Grey’s room. What did it mean? I now wanted to vanish in thin air, find myself among humans and let this be like a bad nightmare that I have just woken up from.
I wanted to be home, in my room talking to my puppy, everything normal. To be happy and all that. I wanted to accept everything around me at the moment but I could not, it was too much for me, I was raised like a normal child. I was crying now, feeling so hopeless and helpless. I wanted to be normal again, go clubbing with friends, hold a party for my birthday, have a boyfriend and live like other teenagers. I wanted to be okay once again.
That was it, I cried myself to sleep with only one plan in mind, when I wake up, and I would calculate my way out. To escape!“Got you some breakfast!” Ari announced happily as she made her way into the room with a tray. I finished tying my hair in a ponytail before turning around to find her smiling at me.
“Thank you” I feigned a smile.
“So, what are you doing today?” she asked sinking onto the bed beside me.
“I will be on Netflix the whole day. I am lucky to be in a room with a wonderful TV” I said biting a cookie I had picked from the plate.
“Not bad at all, hope you’ll find something interesting to watch” she said
“Dot worry, I will. How is Grey?”
“How about I come to pick the dishes later?” she said getting off the bed.
“Sure, no problem” I escorted her towards the door. I locked it once she was out. I asked about Grey intentionally knowing that she wouldn’t talk about him. Nice, I had taken one step already. Now I needed a way out. I tightened the laces of my sneakers and entered the bathrooms locking the door as well. I drugged the large laundry basket into the shower cubicle. Standing on it, I began finding a weak point of the square slab above. I had noticed how the bathroom ceiling looked different from the rest of the room, I wouldn't miss a way out through this place.
I found it.
I slowly pushed it up before pulling it down. Not as heavy as I expected, such a favour. Looking up, there was a tunnel going up, it had holders along. I thought it would be some open space like an attic or something. This would work anyway, there was no time for preferences at the moment. Whoever was using this room must have made the secret route. I didn't think it do be this obvious but, well and good enough for me!
I began climbing up slowly, careful not to make any suspicious voices since vamps had strong hearing abilities. I was halfway, when I came face to face with a green mamba. I could have screamed but I didn’t, I pretended I saw nothing, closed my eyes and kept going up. I wanted to be free, the way I was from childhood. Was I? I pushed the small metal lead above open and pulled myself out onto the cold slab. I replaced the lid, lay there looking around with a smile. The building was comma shaped, larger than I thought I could not see the other end. I was at the narrow end of the comma, which meant the secret way I had used was only known by the user. Sitting up, I looked around at the dark silent night. The moon was full, using it I could see several vamps at the far end of the building. They had weapons of course, and I was not stupid enough to wait for them to detect my scent.
Since the building was completely covered in vines, I had no other way down the eight floors to the ground floor. Despite being height phobic this was the only way out. I found one vine which was strong enough for my weight. I climbed down slowly and carefully, my heart thundered in joy once I was in contact with the short vegetation on the ground.
Run! My adrenaline screamed, and I did so
