I looked up at Flora who was wearing a stoic face staring into the dark. She was the most beautiful lady I have ever seen in my entire life. I couldn't believe she was a witch at all. Looking away from her I looked around at the multiple gravestones encrypted with names. The first that met my gaze...
EDWARD STEEL -1550-
Then another one.....
ADELYN TOMS-1842-
JAYDEN LEX-1624-
JASON HAN-1859-
DERMOT JONES-1806-2002
ADRIAN GREY-1824-
And another...
REGINA WHITES-2006-2022
I stepped back, what was this? Graves of living people? And why was Regina the different one out of them all? I wanted to run, anxiety and fear chocking me entirely.
"What are this?
"Graves, this are graves for all vampires present in the Vines coven. Each coven has its own graveyard with graves equivalent to the population in the coven" she explained casually.
"Why? They are alive...most of them..." I said brows furrowed
"Vampires sleep at times. There are times when vampires are endangered maybe being discovered by humans or when a massive attack occurs. So that is why we have our own caskets and graves. This are our hiding places, where they sleep for years just like dead people. A times frustrations lead them here, when you can't find your mate for centuries or you are just tired of living for ages. They come here and sleep for years before emerging when they think time is right" she moved close to Regina's grave.
"They wake up by themselves just like that?" I inquired.
"No! Before they get in the casket...they appoint someone to wake them. A trustworthy someone to wake them. The process involves a lot of blood. But it is always worthy, since the sleeping vampire always comes back stronger than when it went to sleep"
"That sounds amazing!" I couldn't deny it, it seemed living too long wasn't amazing at all as I thought.
"So we are taking a vampire's body which I will use? But their souls are present in their bodies...two souls can't occupy one body!" I tried to reason with her.
"Sure, what you are saying is true, but there is an exception here" she touched Regina's gravestone. A golden glow appeared in her hands the ground where the grave was began shaking a neat rectangular crack forming. The rectangular lump of soil lifted shifting away revealing a rectangular concrete seal that shifted as well. A gaping hole remained!
Flora stretched her hand over the hole, I heard things creaking and banging lightly. Then a wooden casket emerged from the hole staying airborne for a moment before lowering to the ground on the side.
"But Regina died! She must have... rotten!" I wasn't ready to smell rotten things
"Humans rot, vampires don't" she swiped her hand and the lid opened...I crept forward carefully "Dead vampires turn into ashes instead. Like in Dermot's casket you will find grey ashes in a glass jar."
I peered into the casket my eyes going wide in shock. There was no ashes instead there lay a beautiful girl with a very pale skin as white as paper. Her brown hair was very long, dressed up in a white dress...with no shoes. Do dead people wear shoes?
"Is she asleep?" I was in confusion.
"She was killed by David, your dad! Accept it or deny it, your father is evil, and very dangerous. He cares about nothing except himself" her eyes glowed in rage and anger, something crossed her face then it disappeared almost immediately "he is not worthy to be your father, am hoping you will not end up to be like him. He captured Regina, using her as a trap to get his hands on Grey. He tortured her, forcing her to betray Grey but she refused. So David slaughtered her with a spell he had just invented to see how quick it can kill. It killed fast, but he didn't know what he had actually done"
"The spell didn't work?" I asked
"It worked, Regina died but the spell wasn't efficient it was too weak for it to kill a vampire. It only separates the soul from the body and there is no way to unite them again. So when Grey and the others brought her into her casket it was to take a few hours before she turned into ashes. They didn't wait it was too painful for them to lose her in the first place. They have no idea she didn't turn into ashes because she is not dead!"
"So, that is why Sandy told me to bring her sister back?"
Flora smiled tearfully "I think so"
"But how? If it was possible you could have done it yourself right? You are powerful I mean...
"I might be powerful yes, but somethings are beyond my ability!"
"So how am I an exception?"
"You are different, you can do wonders!" she smiled sweetly then in a millisecond her serious face was back "Now time to get you into a vampire body. For once you will know what it feels like to be in a vampire body"
"Wait, wait, so I am going to meet Dom? How am I supposed to change the situation?" I was not sure of myself, not confident at all.
"You are smart Becky, don't underestimate yourself. You will find a way out. Are you willing?"
"Yeah am willing" I nodded then she beckoned me to move close to her. I stepped close to her, her eyes glowed golden as she reached out to touch my shoulder. A sudden force engulfed me, pushing me down. I blacked out.
