Chapter 22: Unraveling Ties

Xave's POV

In the middle of the night, I found myself sitting on the veranda, staring at the twinkling stars in the sky. Several hours had passed since the heavy news was dropped on our shoulders, but I still felt the weight in my chest.

"Xave," Kuya Vieq suddenly interrupted the darkness of the night, unsure if I should acknowledge him or let his presence hide in the darkness. I didn't say anything, but it seemed like he knew that I couldn't just close my eyes and calm down.

"I know it's too much for you to handle," he said, sitting beside me. "But we need to trust Dad even if he says those things."

"I can't believe Dad just decided for me," I said, turning my gaze towards the stars. It felt like I wanted to ask the heavens for an answer.

Kuya Vieq furrowed his brow, "I don't get it either why Dad is like that. It's like he doesn't care about how we feel. But Xave, don't worry, we'll find a way. I know those idiots actually care."

I rested my head and sighed, as if it was all just a dream and I wanted to forget it. "He said it's for the family, but I think I would understand better if it's for his personal desires."

"I think it's better if we know what's really on Dad's mind. Maybe there are things he's not telling us that we can help with."

"You're right," I said, 'I can't let my life be thrown away for the second time without knowing why. Isn't this the reason why I disappeared in the first place, being indifferent?'

As the cold wind brushed against my skin, followed by a sense of relief. I knew that even though Dad was like that, he had a good reason, but I couldn't help but still feel annoyed.

Kuya Vieq held my shoulder. "You don't have to be a victim of Dad's decisions. We, the Montesseri family, always prioritize the mission because if we neglect that, we could be left behind."

He held my hand tightly. "You know, just relax. Rio and Savi are here, they know how important you are to us. We'll help you."

I was slightly taken aback by Kuya Vieq's words. He's being corny now, but my heart can't help but warm up and depend on him as my older brother. He really seems like a big brother now, hahaha, he might slap me if he reads my mind.

In the moonlight that seeped through my open window, I found myself lying on the cold bed, brought by the cool breeze. I focused on my status window, seeing the display of my current improvements since arriving here.
