for those who don't understand destiel

There are a million ways to say "I love you". At times it's "I'd rather have you -- cursed or not." and other times it's more of a "We need you...I need you."

But see, there are so many different perspectives to look at this from. I mean, so many of us look at Cas and Dean from the angle of "Oh my god, they're so gay for each other," and we constantly use context and subtext as our way of showing others how much they mean to one another. However, in one giant perspective, there is a way to see them. I wouldn't say that it's 'love', but more so care, and I feel like that is the most powerful emotion that Dean and Castiel share.

Because, let's be honest, we can all 'love' someone. We can hug them and kiss them and tell them constantly how much they mean to us and that we love them unconditionally. For Dean and Cas, though, it just kind of looks like their best friends.

I mean, the time that Dean kept Cas' trenchcoat after he went all levithan -- care. The time Dean told Cas that if this was his last night on Earth, then there would be no way that he'd let him die a virgin -- care. I feel like their relationship isn't all the shoulder-touching and hugging, but more of the play on words and emotions.

"I can't lose you, too."

"I'll watch over you."

"I'm not leaving here without you."

"Don't ever change."

There's stares and glances and humor and sly remarks that drive the fandom insane.

You see all of these shows that consist of heavy kissing scenes and sex scenes and minutes of small talk that tell the audience how much the characters mean to one another, but you don't normally see the contextual bond between two characters as much as you do with Dean and Cas.

I mean, don't get me wrong, of course they hug and stuff, but their physical touching doesn't even compare to the expressions that they have when they see each other. When I write emotional scenes, I like to imagine the facial expression the character might have, like in a movie, and I try to make a visual of that very expression. It's so incredibly hard because sometimes it's hard to imagine an emotion being so sincere, and I feel like if I were to read the Supernatural books (as in, if they were in existence), not many people would understand the bond like they do in the show. Their connection is very symbolic, full of loyalty and faithfulness, and most of all, patience.

So sure, Elena and Damon are a pretty lovely couple in The Vampire Diaries, but quite frankly, nothing will ever compare to the amount of effort it took Jensen and Misha to act out those emotional parts, even when they know that the two characters share something and they aren't able to physically show each other that.

Destiel isn't just a ship name. To me, it stands for a green-eyed hunter and a confused angel, falling hopelessly in awe for one another, just a few words at a time.

The greatest love story ever told.
