Chapter 45

JACKSON SQUARE PARK
[Hayley looks devastated as she kneels in front of the sapling where she buried Jackson's heart, which has already been stolen by someone else.]
Hayley: Who would steal his heart?
"Marcel did it to save Hayley." Said Emma.
[She stands to her feet, and her voice is thick with grief as she talks to Bella, who stands behind her.]
Hayley: [sadly] It was the only piece of Jackson that I had left. [Bella slowly walks over to Hayley to comfort her by rubbing her back.]
Bella: We'll find who did this. [Hayley sighs as she and Bella stare down at the dug-up hole where Jackson's heart was once buried.]
Klaus's Subconscious
New Orleans French Quarter
[Out in the street he navigates through crowds of people. He stops to see a band of musicians, then notices a man painting a large canvas. He notices the bartender from earlier standing and watching the man paint, too, and approaches her. She notices him once he's standing next to her.]
Cami: The hundred dollar guy.
Klaus: The brave bartender. [He looks at her name tag.] Camille. That's a French name.
Cami: It's a grandma's name. Call me Cami. Amazing, isn't he? [They observe the painter once more.]
Klaus smiled sadly at the memory.
Klaus: Do you paint?
Cami: No, but I admire. Every artist has a story, you know.
Klaus: And what do you suppose his story is?
Cami: He's...angry. Dark. Doesn't feel safe and doesn't know what to do about it. He wishes he could control his demons instead of having his demons control him. He's lost. Alone. [Klaus' eyes are glistening. He tears his eyes away from the painter, smiling ruefully to himself.]
"Sounds familiar." Said Bella, looking at Klaus. Klaus rolled his eyes.
Cami: Or maybe he just drank too much tonight. Sorry. Overzealous Psych major.
Freya: Klaus
Klaus: No. I think you were probably right the first time. [Cami smiles at him, then glances back at the painting.]
Freya: It's me.
Cami: So, do you-- [She looks round but Klaus is gone] --paint?
Freya: Klaus
Mikaelson Mansion
[Bella comes in with Hayley, who is holding Hope.]
Bella: Freya, what's wrong?
Freya: I thought I found him, but he just vanished right in front of me. That's not our only problem. I can't search Klaus's mind and sustain a spell at the same time.
Everyone seems worried for Klaus.
Bella: What if you sent me in?
Freya: That would require more power.
Bella: You stay here and anchor the spell. Send me in, Freya, I can find him. Nobody's closer to Nik than I am. I know him better than he knows himself. I can bring him back.
"I'm sure you can." Said Klaus and kissed Bella's head. Freya looks jaelous. Klaus noticed and chuckled.
"You are my sister, too, Freya. And you are a part of this family-- always and forever." Said Klaus. Freya smiles. Everyone looked surprised at Klaus's uncharacteristic behaviour.
"I never thought i would say this, but i wholeheartedly agree with Niklaus." Said Elijah. Kol and Bella agreed. Freya looked touched.
Freya: To place you into the pendant, I would need to channel another witch. A powerful one. Born of my family's bloodline.
Bella: So channel me and send me there at the same time.
Freya: Might work.
Bella: (To Hayley) Don't leave house even if the whole world is burning. For today you and Hope just don't leave house. [Hayley nodded.]
"Hayley didn't want Hope to watch this so she took her in her room." Said Emma.
[After few minutes.]
Freya: Ready?
Bella: So he's just in there somewhere, clinging to broken memories?
Freya: The core of his being has retreated deep into his subconscious, but, yes, he's still in there.
Bella: And I just search until I find him?
Freya: You don't have time. There are too many memories for you to randomly search. You have to think, where would Klaus find refuge? It has to be somewhere that represents the fundamental basis of who he is. Hopefully, that's a good place. When you find it, draw him out and wake him up. But be careful, his mind is unstable.
Bella: (chuckles) When it isn't?
Klaus glared at her. Kol chuckled weakly.
Bella: I'll be right back, Rapunzel.
"I get nickname!" Cheered Freya happily.
"You should have just ask if you wanted it so much, Rapunzel." Said Bella.
"It wouldn't be same. You nickname people you care about." Said Freya. Bella smilled.
"Why Rapunzel?" Asked Layla.
"Isn't it obvious? Beautiful blondie taken from her family and trapped by evil witch. Rapunzel!" Said Bella. Freya looked amused.
Freya: Tillate ulaz. Tillate ulaz.

Bella: Come on, Nik, where are you?
Klaus's Subconscious
[Klaus steps out of the procession to turn and look at the boy. The boy, having fallen to his knees in pain, grabs an apple off the ground, turns and throws it at the man with the whip, a fierce look of hatred in his eyes. Infuriated, the man winds up for another lashing, but Klaus grabs something off the ground and hurls it with vampire strength at the man; it hits him in the forehead, and he falls off the horse, dead.]
Bella: Nik? [Klaus approaches the boy.]
Klaus: What is your name?
Young Marcel: Don't got one. Mama wouldn't name me till I turned ten, 'case the fever took me... then it took her. [Klaus crouches down before the boy, getting on his level.]
Klaus: You're a survivor, and survivors need names. How about Marcellus?
Bella: Nik!
Young Marcel: Marcellus?
Klaus: It comes from Mars, the god of war, and it means 'little warrior'. [Klaus stands and holds out a hand to the boy, who hesitates, but then smiles, takes it and rises to his feet.]
Bella: Nik, It's me. I know you're here. Look at me.
"You thought my adoption would be the memory?" Asked surprised Marcel.
"You mean much more to Nik, than you think." Said Bella.
[Klaus disappears and Bella goes to another door.]
MIKAELSON SAFE HOUSE-- ARKANSAS
[Klaus and Hayley's black SUV speeds down the driveway, and Klaus doesn't even get the chance to park before Hayley rushes out of the car and sprints toward Bella, Elijah and her daughter. She stops in her tracks as soon as she sees Hope, as though she can't believe her eyes. Bella and Elijah both smile at her as Klaus catches up with them, and Elijah wastes no time handing a smiling Hope to Hayley.]
Bella: Nik!
Hayley: [to Hope] Hi! [Hayley hugs Hope tightly and breaths a sigh of relief. Behind her, Klaus is near tears and too overwhelmed to move.]
Bella: Nik! [Hayley, unable to meet Elijah's eye, turns so Klaus can see his daughter as well. Hope coos happily, and Klaus and Hayley both laugh as they smother her with kisses.]
Bella: Niklaus! [Klaus disappears again.]
THE BAYOU
[Aurora is sitting in her car in the middle of the woods, where she's staring at her revolver in her hand. Just then, she hears footsteps approaching, and looks in her side mirror to find Aya walking toward her. Aurora vamp-speeds out of the car and slams the door before she addresses her with her revolver aimed at Aya's chest.]
Aurora: You've been following me for miles, Aya, and I'm really not in the mood for a chat. [Aya slowly walks toward her with her hands raised in a non-threatening manner.]
Aya: Then I'll be brief. I've come to make a proposal. To offer you my assistance in your future endeavors.
"Nik! Elijah! It's your crazy exes again!" Whined Bella.
"You are one to talk." Said Klaus. Bella glared at him.
[Aurora sighs and lowers her weapon, but still seems irritated by Aya's appearance.]
Aurora: I know who I want to kill and how exactly I intend to do it. So what good are you to me?
Aya: Having a clear target and hitting the bull's-eye are two very different things. Much easier when you have the help of a determined ally. Assuming, of course, we can find common ground. [Aya smiles at Aurora devilishly, and her words seem to intrigue Aurora, because she smiles back at her.]
Aya: I suspect our worlds can change with a bang.
Everyone glared at them tiredly.
10TH CENTURY MYSTIC FALLS
[Bella goes into another door. Young Elijah and Klaus are in the forest, where Elijah is helping Klaus learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. Klaus takes his aim at a deer.]
Elijah: Be still. Deep breath. Hold... NOW! [Klaus shoots the arrow, but misses the deer.]
Elijah: Your aim is improving. [He smiles and pats Klaus affectionately on the shoulder] Next time! [Suddenly, Mikael finds them in the woods and approaches them.]
Klaus clearly doesn't want everyone or anyone at all to see this.
Mikael: You encourage him, Elijah, but he grows more pathetic every day.
Klaus: [hurt and embarrassed] I'm not pathetic.
Bella: Ughh... I really hate this man!
Mikael: Do not talk back to me. You're not man enough to hold this weapon. If you can't hunt, you're nothing but a burden.
Freya looks disappointed at Mikael.
"I will so enjoy killing him." Said Bella.
"You? I'll kill him. Like i did twice." Said Klaus.
"Exactly! You did it twice! Now it's my turn!" Said Bella
"Technically i killed him only once!" Said Klaus.
"And i still killed him 0 times. It's my turn!" Said Bella.
"Children, please!" Said Elijah.
Klaus: I'm sorry.
Mikael: [grabs Klaus by the front of the shirt] It's a shame we can't feed on sad-eyed apologies. It's your one and only skill. [Bella snapped out of whatever trance she was in.]
Bella: Niklaus! [Mikael backhands Klaus across the face.]
Everyone glares at Mikael.
Elijah: Father, stop.
Mikael: Get our of here or you'll be next. The boy needs to be made strong. [Elijah gives last look to Klaus and leaves.]
Bella: Niklaus!
Klaus: Who are you?
"Why would you chose that memory?" Said Hayley. Bella sent Hayley a glare and Hayley took a hint to be quiet. Klaus glared at screen.
[Mikael tries to kick Klaus in the back while he's sprawled on the ground, but Bella cathes his leg and throws Mikael at tree. Klaus grabs Bella's hand and they run together.]
Klaus: (scared) You shouldn't have done that! Go! Go before he comes back!
Marcel and Layla looked at Klaus with sympathy.
Bella: I'm Bella... from future? Kind of. I came to help you.
Klaus: You can't, He is too strong.
"It feels weird to see him like this." Said Davina. Klaus glares at her.
Bella: We can defeat him, Nik.
Klaus: I can't. You heard him. I'm weak.
Bella: He's wrong. You are strong. You are so strong. [Klaus doesn't believe her.]
"You are." Said Bella and kissed Klaus's cheek.
Bella: Nik, do you remmember when you gave me knight? [Klaus nodded.]
Bella: It made me stronger. [Klaus didn't believe her again.]
Bella: It did. Every time i looked at it, i knew that you would be there with me and it made me stronger and bravier. It helped me so many times, you helped me. Even after everything you had to go through everyday, you were always at my side when i needed you, you always helped me. You gave me strength. Strength is in family. Not what Mikael teaches you. Let me help you like you did with me. It's your turn to be brave now, Nik! [Klaus lookes hesistant.]
Klaus looked at Bella with unreadable expression.
"Their relationship is just something else." Said Layla.
Mikael: Niklaus! Where are you?!
Bella: Come on! When brother and sister stands shoulder to shoulder, Who stands a chance against us?
Kol looked jaelous. Bella of course noticed and kissed his head.
"Don't be jaelous, foxy. I love you, too." Said Bella.
[Bella offered her hand to Klaus, Klaus grabbed her hand determined and they got ready to fight, when... Suddenly, Klaus turned into his adult self and they were out of memory.]
Bella: You are back?
Klaus: I'm back. [Bella hugged him.]
Bella: Never scare me like that again!... I thought i would really lose you.
Klaus: Thank you.
Bella: You are welcome. Through, you should probably be thanking Freya. She worked the hardest to bring you back.
Freya smiled.
Klaus: I will. But i meant from getting me out of memory. [They part away.]
Bella: I have to go, to tell Freya it's safe to fix the pendant. But don't worry! You will be back before you know it.
