Tree of Life

That same afternoon, Nirmala and Kion arrived at a large lake. The lake had the purest water Kion had ever seen. he could also see his reflection in the lake's waters.

Nirmala: This is Pratibimba, the Lake of Reflection. This will be the next step of your healing.

Kion: So, what do I have to do here?

Nirmala: Look in the water, what do you see?

Kion peered in the water to see his reflection and his scar. He growled in frustration and splashed the water, ridding his reflection.

Kion: Ugh! My scar! I can't wait until it's healed and gone.

Nirmala: Kion, your scar will never go away.

Kion: What!

Nirmala: Your scar is permanent, but it can be healed.

Kion: But if it's being healed, then why won't it vanish?

Nirmala: Your scar is just an outside injury. There is still much more inside you that needs to come out. This is what your task today is going to do. You must reflect on everything in your life, everything you have done, and everything that you have yet to accomplish.

Nirmala turned around and walked away. Kion sighed and looked down at the lake, with several thoughts running throughout his head. What do I have yet to do? Will I be able to get healed? What will I do if I don't have the Roar? Ugh, I can't think.

Kion's mind kept flooding with questions, however, the final question that came to him was shocking.

Can I really be a leader? Can I lead the Lion Guard without the Roar?

Hours passed and Kion was still at the lake. It was around early afternoon when someone came up behind Kion.

Rani: Kion?

Kion: Oh, hey Rani.

Rani: This is your therapy for today? Just sitting here and looking at a lake?

Kion: Well--yeah. But I could use a break.

Rani and Kion went on a walk through the woods around the lake. Both were relatively quiet until Rani started.

Rani: So, what were you thinking about?

Kion: My scar. Nirmala said that it can't be totally healed. And if it's not healed, than I don't think I can control the roar.

Rani: Do you really need the roar?

Kion: What?! What do you mean?!

Rani: My grandmother said that the roar was destined to return and stay at the Tree of Life. So maybe you should allow the roar to stay here, even if you leave the Tree of Life.

Kion: You're saying that I should give up the roar? Leave it behind?

Rani: That is what my grandmother prophesized. I think it would be the correct think to do.

Kion: But without the roar I don't think I can lead the Lion Guard.

Rani was taken aback by Kion's lack of confidence and trust in himself. Was it his scar or was it him?

Rani: Kion, I have seen you in action. You are a great leader and your friends say that you are. Just trust in yourself. I know that you will be able to-

Rani was interrupted by a horrible smell that seemed to be coming from the forest to the right of them. Rani and Kion covered their noses at the foul smell.
