Chapter 19: Relentless

Tree of Life

The Night Pride and Lion Guard were fending off attacks from the East and West entrances of the Tree of Life. Attacks occurred at different regions of the territory and it's starting to tire the guards out.

Rani: Get out of the Tree of Life Makucha!

Makucha smirked evilly and laughed.

Makucha: Not so fast Rani! We will keep attacking and attacking until you are too tired to even stand. And then, we will take over your precious tree and all those delicious animals will be ours!

Rani growled and charged at Makucha and Makucha did the same.

After a short battle, the guards prevailed once more, but were more tired than ever.

Fuli: Ugh! When will these daily attacks stop?!

Beshte: You're right Fuli. They're attacking multiple times each day now, and we don't even know where.

Rani: Everyone is worn out and tired from the constant attacks. Scar has to be behind all this though.

Baliyo: That is correct!

Rani sighed.

Rani: I just hope Bunga, Anga, and Ono will find Kion soon.

Beshte: We all do.

Nirmala: For now, everyone should rest. We don't know when or where the next attack will come.

Surak: Nirmala's correct, let's rest.

Everyone was walking back toward their respective resting places when they were interrupted once more.

Ullu: Hoohoo! Night Pride! Lion Guard!

Both guards turned around sluggishly.

Rani: What is it Ullu? Don't tell me it's another attack?!

Ullu: Unfortunately yes. I saw a band of komodo dragons near the Southern entrance.

Fuli: Ugh! We just finished defeating Makucha's band of leopards! When does this stop?!

Rani: It stops when we defeat Scar, now let's go!

Both guards rushed towards the southern entrance of the Tree of Life and found Ora's komodo dragons approaching.

Ora: There you are Night Pride and Lion Guard! We have been waiting for you.

Rani: Well, you will regret you ever stepped foot inside the Tree of Life's territory.

Rani got into a fighting stance, shortly followed by the others behind her.

Ora: We shall see. Ah!

Ora started the charge, followed by his companions. The Night Pride and Lion Guard charged forward as well, but they had to be very cautious. One bite from the dragons and their knocked down, unable to stand due to the venom.

Beshte: Twende Kiboko!  Beshte slammed into 2 dragons and sent them tumbling off their feet.

Fuli: Huwezi!  Fuli ran circles around a dragon until it collapsed on the ground from dizziness.

Baliyo was engaging another dragon in a battle along with Fuli and Beshte while the rest of the Night Pride fought on the other front.

Surak quickly defeated a dragon when he saw a dragon headed straight for an unaware Nirmala.

Surak: Nirmala move! Now!

Nirmala quickly sidestepped and Surak leapt onto the dragon, rendering it injured.

Nirmala: Thanks Surak! I wasn't paying attention.

Surak: No problem Nirmala.

Everything seemed to be going fine, until a loud scream filled the air.

Everyone looked in horror to find Rani on the ground, with a deep bite mark in the side of her right hind leg. She was also surrounded by 4 dragons.

Rani: Help!

Baliyo: Let my sister go!

Ora: Oh I don't think so!

Ora quickly grabbed Rani's injured leg in her jaws, causing Rani to scream in pain, and dragged her out of the Tree of Life, with the other dragons following in suit.

Everyone else just stood there in shock and utter horror on the events which had just unfolded.

Baliyo started crying out of love and desparation for his sister.

Baliyo: No! I can't do this anymore! First my parents, then my sister!

Nirmala: They took Rani. We have to get her back.

Fuli: What would they want with Rani though?

Surak: Scar probably wanted to capture our leader, this way it would leave us defenseless and weaker against the future attacks.

Beshte: What are we going to do? Now both of our leaders are gone, Kion and Rani.

Nirmala: We must confide with the queen to see what she thinks of this situation and how we should take action.

Both guards hastily walked towards the Tree of Life to consult Queen Janna about their current situation.

When the guards walked, Janna had a look of confusion on her face of why her granddaughter was absent. She was always with the Night Pride!

Janna: Hello everyone! What is wrong? And where is Rani?

Everyone looked down and Baliyo started to break down crying again.

Janna: What is wrong Baliyo?

Nirmala sighed and decided to reveal the uneventful truth.

Nirmala: I am truly sorry your majesty, but Rani has been taken.

Janna's face turned from confusion to pure shock and horror at the understanding of her granddaughter and heir's capture.

Janna: How?! What happened?!

Fuli: We were just fighting a band of komodo dragons in the southern entrance and in the midst of the fight, Rani was bitten and dragged away. We couldn't follow them, otherwise, we would've been taken too. I apologize your majesty.

Janna: It's ok Fuli. I know everyone tried their best.

Surak: How should we act now mother?

Janna: All we can do is hope and pray to the lions of the past to keep our companions safe and for them to return soon.

Janna started to slightly tear up.

Janna: Otherwise, all will lost...

There we go! I finally released this chapter after a lot of rumination! I will post at least 2 more chapters this week so stay tuned!
