24 | it was an accident
this is bad, this is very bad
Tanner and I ended up painting for hours, and me, being the asshole that I am, took the paint brush and swiped it across his forehead, so he chased me around with the roller. Let's just say I had to go home and change before coming back to school.
Tanner suggests we stay at my house and watch a movie, but missing phys ed isn't a great idea, and I have to find out what I missed in English anyway, because God knows I'm not going to ask Axel. He probably wouldn't even remember himself.
I knock on the English office door for Mrs. Awr, and she throws it open with a smile on her face.
"Ah, Aviana," she smiles, and then squints her eyes, "you missed my class today."
I blush and explain, "I'm sorry, I was volunteering. I was hoping you could tell me what I missed."
"I can definitely do that," she nods, "but maybe you ca go to one of your classmates first?" She doesn't sound threatening at all, just suspicious, and adds, "or do you not talk to anyone in the class? You know, my homeroom is all about inclusiveness. Do the students not make you feel welcome?"
I shake my head. "No, no, they do," I say, "I'm just not close with any of them yet, and I wanted to talk to you about my editing gig anyway."
She claps her hands together excitedly. "I have good news about that!" She squeals. "We just had a work period today, and I'm starting to get rough drafts in next week, so any student that doesn't mind an editor other than myself will mark it on their cover page and allow you to give them feedback. It'll be super helpful for me. I know not everyone will want someone else reading their story, so I will have a bunch to edit as well. Are you still good to do so?"
I nod. "Yes, of course. I have a spare this period, actually, would it be okay to use this time to edit with you?"
She smiles. "Sounds like a plan. We'll do it in my room, okay? I'll get you more information next week, but it is quite a lengthy process since it is a summative and I gave to you guys long before the due date. You might be editing a few a couple of times, so get prepared."
I chuckle. "Great. I'll see you in class tomorrow, I promise."
She laughs. "Mhm."
・・・
The weather outside is wonderful. I decide to wander back down the English hallway after speaking with Mrs. Awr and call my Grandma back in Chicago, since we haven't really spoke since our move to Cali and she always used to bake me cookies.
"Mama!" I shriek when she answers the phone. "I miss you!"
"Oh, don't lie, little one," she groans, "you miss my baking. And I'm not sending cookies."
