"Hunny," a sweet voice enters my ears. Soon, the side of my bed sinks down and a cool hand touches my forehead. "How are you? Did you call in sick?"
I groan and snuggle against my pillow. "Mhm."
Moms fingers comb through my straggly hair. "Do you need anything?"
I roll over and peak out of my eyes. The room is almost dark, only a glow of moon and street light washing onto the far wall as the breeze of the beach trickles through my windows. Mom's kind face smiles down at me, a glass of water in her hands. Her fingers flick on my lamp and she helps me sit up, handing me an Advil and the glass.
I drown the whole thing. "Thanks, mommy," I sigh, enclosing her in my arms. She smells like lavender and her short blonde hair is soft against my face. "I feel much better now, actually, I just needed sleep I think. Do you wanna go for a walk? I could us some fresh air."
Mom giggles. "Our show is gonna be on soon," she explains, "can I ask you a favour though?"
I nod and rub my eyes. "Yeah, what time is it?"
"8:30," she glances over at the clock, "Will's working until ten tonight, hun. Can you take him some food?"
I chuckle. "What? Will didn't pack enough of his vegan food?"
Mom squeezes my cheeks and pecks them. "Yes, hunny, go! I called to the little burger place downtown and they have a veggie burger and fries. Can you take it to him?"
"Yeah, I guess," I sigh and climb out of bed. Mom wanders back downstairs as I pull on a pair of leggings and my camo army jacket. When I meet her in the kitchen, she hands me the address and thanks me, and shuffles back into the living room to sit back down on the couch with my dad, a bowl of popcorn on his lap.
I laugh and go get Will his burger.

The warm light trickling out of the open garage door of Dave's auto repair is bright against the evening sky. I shuffle in in my black converse and find Will fixing something underneath the hood of a bright, green car. I amble towards him and pat him on the back. "Got your food!" I giggle.
He glances up at me. "Aren't you a little angel?" He sighs, and tries taking me into a hug.
"Ew!" I back away, "you're greasy as fuck."
"Awe, come on," Will teases.
I shove the food in front of me. "I will throw this if you come any closer."
He laughs out loud. "Can you go set it on Dave's desk? And put a note on it that says it's mine!"
I nod. "When's your break?"
