Chapter: Angry Little Scientist
The door to the Apprentice Common Lab crashed open, turning the heads of all those in the room, including both the Keeper of Kingdom Two and the head scientist of the Research and Sciences department. A young scientist snarled fiercely, stopping just within the doorway.
"Oh no." one of the apprentices moved from her lab bench, reaching out to the seething girl.
"Ah yes, speaking of Miss Gathooc," the Keeper sounded mildly entertained, "here she is now."
"Apprentice Ashton, need I remind you of your place in this lab?" The head of the Department scolded the gray lab coated apprentice who had moved from her seat.
"Yes sir." The apprentice threw her seething friend a warning glare as she backed to her seat.
"Miss Gathooc, you seem upset, has another of your tests gone awry?" The Keeper questioned mockingly. He slowly stepped through the aisle space between lab benches toward her.
"You tell me. You have clearly been monitoring it closely enough to warrant this announcement." the scientist sneered. The head of the department stood motionlessly, watching the exchange between them in silence.
"I would expect the daughter of a department head to be a little more respectful of its Keeper, especially if the department is her field of work as well." the Keeper snarled slightly.
"I don't care about your expectations." she sneered.
"Well you should, Miss Gathooc," The Keeper gave a chuckle, " and I expect your experiments to work properly and document successful results."
"I know I can make it work if you will just listen to me!" the young scientist filled the room with a loud screech, her face red with anguish. Everyone was quiet for a moment, the department head's face fell, clearly embarrassed by his normally cool and collected daughter's behavior.
"Miss Gathooc I have done everything you have asked of me. I have provided you with the safest of experiment labs above the containment chambers and even provided guard protection. You requested the training field closed in by a forcefield, I managed to get you the one just outside of the facility and even applied the forcefield myself." Kingdom Two's Keeper responded with a slight mocking tone.
"And for that I am grateful, but that is hardly the problem. It is these characters you call test subjects i am being provided." the small Gathooc glowered.
"Ah yes, what has become of all sixty?" Kitealla could sense the mockery he hid beneath his hood.
"They were rotten!" She yelled back.
"That doesn't answer my question." he scratched his chin beneath his hood, bemused.
"They all turned to Beasts within minutes of receiving the SerumOrb." Kitealla seethed through a clenched jaw.
"All of them? It sounds like the test subjects may not be the problem."
"Not the'" she was exasperated, irritated beyond belief, "They are prisoners testing a Mystico Orb, a power fueled by good!"
"What do you suggest?"
"Give me subjects who have not committed evil deeds."
"To do that we would have to look through the files of the test subjects." he grinned devilishly.
"You say that as if it cannot be done." She snarled suspiciously.
"For volunteers of the public to want to test for you the experiment must be, well, less lethal." The girl lurched forward with the intent of burying her fists into the man's gut, but a firm hand on her shoulder stayed the attack.
"Kitealla," The man's voice full of authority, "I think we have created enough of a spectacle and used plenty of the Keeper's time." he turned toward the Keeper and gave a slight bow, "Thank you, sir."
"It was my pleasure, Scientist Gathooc," The keeper looked down at the girl, "In fact, I can see this young lady doing much for this department in the future. One more Test, Miss Gathooc. Until next time." He returned a small bow to the fuming girl and the department head before leaving the room, off to see through his many duties.
"He is doing this on purpose." Kitealla growled angrily, "he knows Plenty about Mystico Magics and exactly what has gone wrong with my orb. He knows exactly what he has done."
"Did you expect this to be easy and opposition free? Did you honestly think someone with no Mystico blood dismantling and piecing back together the science of Orb making would be accepted by all? Come, Kitealla. You have work to do." Mr. Gathooc clasped his hands behind his back looking around the room full of lingering eyes, "you all have work to do." he made his way out into the hall. Kitealla hesitated in confusion before running after him, ignoring the still staring crowd they left behind.
