Chapter: Kitealla's Test

"I will test them." Ten stared at Kitealla, loathing that she had shown up, There's a clearing in the oscuro Forest, I want you to take them there late tonight." Ten grimaced and turned away.

"Is there no one else? How do I keep Iris and Axel from tagging along, they aren't high enough level yet."

"We'll bring Bell to shield the young ones and any who lack the skill."

"What is your test?" Ten asked. Bell approached her and placed a series of orbs in her palm. She looked them over, observing the milky blue colors.

"The kid." she mumbled handing them back.

"Don't worry. I'm sure they'll pass." Kitealla gave a reassuring smile, Sage giving a small nod in agreement.

Teen Looked around the dark woods letting her eyes wander over the night vision clad others around her, the gerberan youth she had allowed herself to grow close to, those whom she tricked into thinking she was just a normal classmate. She counted six faces, she should have known better, there was no way they would actually leave Axel and Iris at home with the promise of adventure. She tugged at her hiid and turned away. Being careful not to give away the glow of her eyes.

"So remind me again," she forced her voice to work and reached for the drawstring pouch she had attached at her waist, "what's so scary about this place?" she pulled out a small orb, hiding it within her curled fingers and scanned the treetops, knowing somewhere hidden up there was her captain and fellow squad members.

"Rumor has it there's quite a few beasts left in here." Matheys gave a cynical smile making Iris cringe.

"But there's not." Benjamin rolled his eyes.

"DOn't be too sure about that." Matheus smirked, "gray and I come in here all the time to hint, right?" he looked to his brother expectantly who simply gave a small shrug.

"Kinda boring now, though." Magia stifled a yawn, "hmph, I miss the good ol' days. It made Beast hunting so much more fun."

"Before the extinction gray and I used to wander in here, the first person to leave was a wuss. Math waved his sword around a bit.

"Hmm." Ten nodded pretending to listen as she looked around the forest. Somewhere Kitealla was hidden within the leaves of the full treetops waiting for Ten to begin the test. She wriggled her hand silently into the drawstring pouch that hung at her side, feeling for the container that held a Beast Orb.

"Your parents actually let you come in here?" Iris asked, fascinated, although having difficulty seeing in the dark. The others had come prepared, each donning a pair of night goggles while Iris and Then came without, although they were not a necessity to the squad member.

"Do it." Ten heard Kitealla's order on the breeze. She stood unmoving.

"Did you not hear me? Or are you choosing to disobey?" Ten flinched at the scorn in the woman's voice, only heard by her, "This is what must be done.

"Ten, are you okay?" Matheus whispered lowly. Ten pulled a small milky blue orb from her satchel, rolling it around in her hand.

"I said now, Ten." Kitealla growled again.

Ten crushed it, feeling it begin to warm and glow in her closed fist. She pulled her arm back, throwing it only a few yards away before being yanked into a nearby tree. Her mind was wracked with worry and hatred at her actions. These were just kids. Kitealla instinctively gripped Ten tighter as the pair watched the Beast take form.
