Chapter 18. Trouble in paradise

The ship continued flying at warp speed to Jupiter. It takes over a year to get from Earth to Jupiter, but warp drive will make the flight less than an hour. During the trip, Isaac and Felicia explained why the military base exploded.

Tanisha: I don't understand. You're telling me that someone tried to kill us?

Isaac: That's exactly what I'm saying. Whoever rerouted the gas lines knew that it would cause an explosive chain reaction.

Clover: Damn. We must've really pissed someone off to go that far.

Matt: Except we don't know who would do this. Maybe this was a mistake.

Isaac: No use second guessing. We've already come this far. What matters is that we've survived.

Both Kevin and Pam still had no issues from flying the shuttle. But Pam was secretly staring at Kevin because she was impressed by his intelligence and his skills. Actually, it was more of a crush. She blushed but quickly got it together before anyone noticed.

Pam: This is honestly the first time I've ever seen a civilian pilot a shuttle. Those must be some impressive neural implants.

Kevin: They only let me wirelessly hack into computers. None of them has anything to do with my brain. I wasn't just a hacker; I was a top engineer who invited a lot of things in college. What about you?

Pam: Before joining the Marines, I ran a flower shop. Just me and my roses and sunflowers, out in the fields and gazing at the clouds and feeling the gentle breeze.

Kevin: Really? Gosh, I never pegged you as a woman with a gentle side. It's kinda sweet.

Pam: Thanks. Just don't go spreading that around.

While they were all talking, Isaac was listening in on more of Lex's broadcasts. After all this time she's still alive and making her broadcasts from wherever she's hiding at. And the tech from 31st century allows basic radios to still pick up signals from Earth.

Lex: Throughout history there's been plenty of people who've gone insane or gone bad during the end of days. But none of them compares to cult called The Chosen. All it took was them witnessing Succoria and they already worship her as their true God. I feel sorry for anyone running to them for safety. Dying at their hands would just be merciful.

Kevin: Did she just say Succoria? She actually met her? Seriously, how does that little girl know everything?

Issac: No idea. I'm more concerned about this cult she mentioned. I have a bad feeling about them.

Pam: The world's gone through Hell, there's nothing to like.

After listening to the radio, Isaac went to check up on Pam and Kevin. Or he tried to, but Felicia held his arm while feeling emotional and romantic. And emotionally unstable.

Felicia: Ever wondered how it would feel like to have sex in space, babe?

Isaac: Even if I did, the answer would still be no. This is the worst possible time to think about that.

Felicia: Don't worry, I'll do all the work and make it quick. I know how much you love watching me work. And I'm sure your sister knows not to look or listen.

Isaac: The answer is no. Felicia, I need you to stay focused, at least long enough until we come back from this.

Felicia: And what, you think I'm only doing this for laughs?! I don't want us to have our last moments in space without making love one last time! I want to embrace you one more time before I lose you!

Isaac: Felicia, that's not gonna happen! None of us are gonna die in space! I promise, I will make sure we all come back alive. Just trust me.

Felicia: Of course, I trust you. I love you with all my heart.
