NOVA

Clover.

A name I have heard, but a face I never expected to see. Pollux wasn't one for giving details, but from what I knew, this woman before me looked nothing like the person I have seen in Pollux's past.

I observed her cautiously, because there was no good reason a human would willingly pass onto wolf territory. And it seems Phoenix had the same idea because without even moving his mouth, two guards flanked Clover and pushed her to her knees, keeping their hands on her shoulders.

I inhaled sharply when she cried out, ignoring the pang of sympathy that echoed in my chest.

Why was she here?

What did she know?

She sent her entire village after Pollux, and now she was here. Why?

"Please, Nova."

Phoenix growled, stepping before me to cover me from her pleading eyes, but I placed a hand on his arm, stopping him before I disappeared completely. I stepped around him, taking a step closer to the odd human before me.

Selma was watching me with keen eyes, a small smirk lifting her face as we made eye contact. I cleared my throat, raising my hand for the guards to let her go. They didn't even fight my measly command, and stepped away from Clover in an instant.

I heard Phoenix huff, no doubt internally complaining about his security's lack of loyalty to their alpha male. Selma hummed, taking a step closer, but I ignored her as Clover's brown eyes begged me to do something.

"Why are you here?" I asked. "No vague answers, or I won't stop the wolves next time."

Her voice was barely a whisper. "Pollux... He said you were kind. Please, Nova. You need to listen to me."

"It is Luna to you." Sean snapped.

Clover gulped, eyes widening as she spotted the broad man. "S-sorry."

"Why should I listen?"

"I came all this way to see you." She pleaded. "Y-you're in danger."

Dread settled in my gut, but I kept my face passive. She was still a threat; she could very well be a distraction.

"How did you find us?"

"I-I was travelling through the places I remember Pollux telling me about. It was s-so hard to track a... werewolf, when nobody knows they exist." She stammered, looking around nervously. "Then... then Selma found me and showed me the way."

"She did?" Phoenix hummed, glaring at the witch.

I ignored the calculating look in his eye, focusing on Clover. Because if Selma, the elusive witch, brought her here, then it had to mean something. Phoenix had told me she doesn't come to anybody if they don't need it.

"You know something." I stated.

Clover nodded, looking up at me with a sad expression. "You look so alike, you know."

"I know." I nodded. "What do you know?"

"There's an army moving." She explained. "Wolves are hunting you down. I... I think they're after your bloodline."

I pursed my lips because she was right. She knew more than a normal person would.

"Stand up." I gestured. "Phoenix, we're taking her inside."

My mate's honey-gold eyes narrowed on me. "Nova, my love, we can't just take in another stray off the-

"Phoenix." I deadpanned. "She comes inside for questioning."
