Ranpo Edogawa, the greatest detective. At first, [Name] had their own image of him: a small kid with blue eyes, dark brown hair and glasses. Though, only the last of the listed was actually a part of his appearance. They didn't know why, probably his last name reminded them of someone else.

The raven haired dude sat across [Name] in a booth looking place in the office. An awkward silence formed while Ranpo examined the kid in silence. [Name] fidgeted with the loose bandage around their arm while nervously trying to not look into the eyes of the detective.

Should they start a conversation? Open up to him like he's supposed to be a therapist? After debating for a good thirty seconds, they were ready to speak up.

"So, uhm-"

"Aha!" Ranpo cut them off with an exclamation.

The man jumped up, grabbed the flabbergasted [Name]'s hand, and dragged them out to the office, where his coworkers and president were. They slightly hissed as he touched their cuts. It still hurts a bit.

Almost all of them looked up from their work at the sudden noise, except for a man with a beige coat. Dazai was just reading his book, not minding the detective's sudden outburst.

Fukuzawa looked at Ranpo with an unamazed yet curious look on his face.

"What is it?"

"I would like to show you. Atsushi," Ranpo turned to the boy, "please activate your tiger ability and come here."

Atsushi looked at the president to make sure it's okay. Fukuzawa nodded, then a couple moments and a bunch of blue rings of light later, the tiger approached [Name].

Sure, seeing a live tiger getting closer to you is frightening, however, the kid was not startled at all. In a complete different situation, if someone would ask them if they would be scared to be in the same room as a tiger, they would answer: "Of fucking course", but while facing the beast in question, they felt like they shouldn't be afraid at all. Something told them it's completely okay, but they had no idea whether it's because they knew it was just Atsushi and he won't harm them, or because of some other factors.

[Name] unintentionally reached out to the animal's head.

Just as they placed their hand on the fur of the tiger, a tiny  white light on the outline of their hand lit up. The cat's eyes widened by the movement. Soon, the tiger's head turned back to Atsushi's surprised face, the limbs turned into a human legs and human arm and the torso became the boy's once again.

Atsushi fell to the ground and landed on his butt. Everyone in the agency watched the scene, even the brown haired detective looked up from his book. It seemed like he knew exactly why did this happen, and he didn't like it.

"An ability nullification skill?" an orange haired guy asked, looking at Ranpo.

"Mhm." the raven haired detective nodded while adjusting his glasses. "Just like Dazai's"

[Name] just stood there like a dummy, but once the man's name was mentioned, they glanced at Dazai. His head was buried in the book again, but they didn't know whether it was because he simply didn't care about the situation or he already figured out this piece of information on his own, and he didn't need to wait for an explanation. [Name]'s eyes shifted to his hand: he nervously fiddled with his fingers.

He seemed... anxious? Upset? They couldn't tell.

Ranpo started telling the workers the explanation behind all of this, but [Name] couldn't take out a word coming from him. Every sound around them became blunt, like someone was covering the non existing speakers. [Name] just stared at Dazai in silence.

They felt their anxiety rising, but didn't know why. Almost like the body had a feeling something is not right. Almost like the body understood why Dazai was nervous, but the mind couldn't.

[Name] walked towards the man in the chair.

Their steps were light - they barely made any sound. The kid approached Dazai with a look of determination on their face, however, as soon as [Name] stood beside him, their voice trembled a little:

"What is your pro-"

"Oh, how unfortunate!" the man cut them off and dramatically stood up from his chair. "I have been called to a crime scene! Goodbye everyone!" Dazai exclaimed then walked out of the office.

[Name] looked after the detective, clearly frustrated about the previous conversation.

"I have never seen Dazai be this enthusiastic about awork before." Yosano said, amused. "I wonder what has gotten into him."

[Name] sighed and turned their head to the desk of Dazai.'Why is he avoiding me? What did I do to him?' they wondered.

Fukuzawa placed his hand on their right shoulder. They looked back to the man, who had a slighter softer look on his face - and I am not exaggareting by saying he almost looked the same, it also took [Name] some time to notice the small change on his expression. The kid thought Fukuzawa looks like he is about to address a sensitive subject, and they couldn't be more right.

"Come with me. We have something to discuss."

>><<

The kid could sense the tension filling the air of the office, exactly around the two of them. Both [Name] and Fukuzawa remained silent ever since they have entered the room. [Name] was waiting for Fukuzawa to speak up, although Fukuzawa waited for the perfect moment to start the conversation. The man didn't know how the kid would react to the information he was about to share, so he tried to ease the ension by starting off with an innocent question:

"What are your parents like?"

[Name]'s eyes slightly widened by the random question, but they gathered their thoughts and tried to answer:

"They are... uhm... kind, I guess?" they mumbled. "They... consisted of a mother and a father..."

"You don't know anything about them, do you?" Fukuzawa sighed. The kid awkwardly nodded.

"I don't know, if it's because I can't recall any good or bad traits of them, or I just simply can't word what I want to say." [Name] shrugged their shoulders.

Fukuzawa looked at them straight in the eye, then thought about the next question.

"It has been like this for a while: I can't remember a lot of things, which are mandatory, or known as common sense, ever since that time I fell asleep in maths. It has been frustra-"

"Your parents are dead, [Name]." Fukuzawa cut them off. His tone was harsh, yet there was a hint of softness in it. He didn't know how the kid would exactly react, but what happened next left Fukuzawa completely flabbergasted:

"Yeah, I know. I accidentally tore my mom's head off from her corpse."

They sounded like it was something normal they were talking about.

Fukuzawa couldn't sense atleast a bit of sadness, anger or surprise in their voice, nor could see it on their faces. He reached out for a note pad and a pen and wrote this strange encounter up.

"Why are you so neutral about their death?" Fukuzawa looked up at [Name]. The kid thought about how to phrase it for a moment.

"I know I should be sad.... but for some reason, I don't feel anything. No tears left my eyes when I realized that they are dead. Somehow... It feels like I didn't know them that much to be affected by their death? Maybe they weren't my actual parents?" they shook their head. "No. That can't be possible. I am definitely not adopted." [Name] sighed. "I too, was surprised that it didn't damage me mentally, like how I expected to."

The man looked at the kid with slight confusion in his eyes. Their theory seemed dumb, but made sense at the same time. He had a feeling that this kid won't let go of this, until they finally find an explanation for all of these strange events...
