Fukuzawa sat in his silent office while waiting for Atsushi to arrive.
His eyes scanned the table during his time alone. The documents about the latest case on the top of the desk, a client request right in front of him, his phone on his left opposite his caffee mug... everything was organized just how it should be.
The clock hit 1 o'clock. In that exact moment, a knock was heard from the other side of the door.
"Come in."
The door was opened by a boy, no older than eighteen. He shifted his purple and yellow eyes until he found where Fukuzawa was sitting. He walked over to the desk while his tail-looking belt swung behind his back.
"You called me, boss?" Atsushi asked.
"Yes, and I'm glad you came." the president replied as he started to dig through the request in front of him. "I have a case for the agency members. Please, ask the others if anyone will take it." Fukuzawa handed the boy the papers.
"What happened?" Atsushi inquired further.
"After our war with the Guild, a lot of foreign gangs entered Japan to-"
The president was cut off by the beeping of his phone. He didn't even glance at it. He just sighed, then was about to continue explain the case, when he got another message.
Atsushi looked at the phone, then to Fukuzawa. The device made another beep, then went silent. It was possible that the person who texted him is in a hurry or wants to get Fukuzawa's attention.
"Is there a chance that it's important?"
The president shook his head in response, but checked the phone anyways. "Pardon me."
He picked up the device and read the messages he received. He frowned in confusion. The texts made no sense. None of them.
Unknown: xxx street
Unknown: alley behind school
Unknown: !Fukuzawa glared at the screen. 'It's probably just a prankster... wait. Who did I give a business card with the telephone number?' Another message was sent by the stranger, but this time, it only consisted of two simple letters.
Unknown: dr
Atsushi silently stood infront the desk, waiting for the president to speak up.
"What does 'dr' mean?" he asked after some time. The boy brought his hand up to his chin as he concentrated on Fukuzawa's question.
"'Dr' as in 'doctor'?" Atsushi guessed as he couldn't think of any other word that would make sense.
And that was the moment something clicked in Fukuzawa's head. 'I gave the business card to a kid the other day... and the school on street xxx... it must be them.' He read the text carefully once again after feeling he forgot about something. 'Oh, lord...'
The next thing Atsushi could see, was the director suddenly jumping up from his chair with pure worry on his face.
"President, what happene-"
Atsushi was cut of by the sound of Fukuzawa's mug breaking on the floor. The cause of the mug shattering into pieces was by the fact, that the president rushed by his desk, and accidentally knocking it over. The young boy watched as his boss ran out of his office's door, leaving Atsushi and all the paperwork behind.
Fukuzawa hurried down the stairs. 'I don't think they have much time left...' he took a turn to the other staircase with that thought in his mind. With every step he made, he could feel his anxiety increase. After what it seemed like forever, he finally got out of the building.
His employees watched him through the café's window.
"..."
"I think we are thinking of the same thing." Yosano said while taking a sip of her coffee.
"He probably lost it after he found the dead opossum under Dazai's desk?" Tanizaki guessed. The man with glasses slowly turned to the orange haired boy.
"Pardon me. The what."
A sweat drop ran down on Fukuzawa's face while he looked at the plates with street names on it. The only times he slowed down was when he saw a familiar street name to what he was looking for, but after every irrevelant alley, he quickened his steps. Fukuzawa turned his head left and right, searching for the place where [Name] would most likely be while heavily panting. 'It's supposed to be somewhere here...!'
He saw the sign for the private school. Fukuzawa sighed in relief, but then he noticed that there was no building there. Only the leftover dust and some beams, that the fire couldn't take away.
He took a turn to the alley, and there were they. [Name] was lying on the ground, with a puddle of blood under them. Fukuzawa ran up to them.
"What the heck happened here..." he crouched down to the child.
He checked their pulse. After making sure their heart was still beating, he examined [Name]'s heavily damaged body. He kneeled down on the ground.
Fukuzawa took the blood soaked piece of fabric that they were holding. He tossed it away in the distance, took off his haori and wrapped around the child's body, where the wound was.
'Maybe if I call Yosano now, and start to get going, we might meet halfway...' the president thought as he picked up [Name] on his back. After making sure their body is unabled to fall down, Fukuzawa pulled out his phone and typed Yosano's number into the device...
