Her black eye was more noticeable than ever. The bruises on her body were too dark to cover. There was dried up blood on her nose. And her lip was still bleeding. Jodi looked down at her bloody hands. Her arms were all bruised up from blocking their hits.
She took a step away from the mirror. Just that simple step brought pain to her leg. It caused her to fall to the floor and make a loud thump sound.
Jodi groaned from the pain. But she stood back up and hopped back to her bed. She was over it. She wanted no more of this life. She grabbed a bag from under her bed and began stuffing it with clothes. She took a step to her dresser to grab the money, but she fell from the pain.
It was no use. Her leg was slowing her down as it was. A bag of clothes was just going to slow her down even more. She needed out of here fast.
Jodi hopped to her window. She looked out to see the blizzard going on. She would die of hypothermia out there. Jodi turns to her door. She could hear her parents downstairs still watching tv at full volume.
She didn't care about dying anymore. As long as she was away from them, that's all that mattered. She tried her best to pry the window open, but it was frozen shut from the outside. Instead, she'd have to go through the front door. Which meant she would have to pass her parents in the living room.
Jodi grabbed the warmest sweater she could find and made her way downstairs. Even with the tv at full volume, she still felt like she would be heard if she wasn't careful of her steps. Jodi peaked her head around the corner, nothing. The two were basically asleep. She didn't understand how.
She tiptoed towards the door, silently groaning from the pain in her leg. She unlocked the door, and turned back to her parents. They were still asleep. Jodi let out a sigh as she twisted the doorknob.
The door then flung open from the wind, slamming loudly and causing her parents to wake up. "What are you doing?!" Her father screamed.
Scared of what would happen next, she began to run. She didn't care about the blizzard or any sort of animal that would harm her. Not even the pain in her leg bothered her. She just didn't want to be stuck there any longer.
She just kept running and running, ignoring the pain that was going through her whole body. But she couldn't feel anything. Not the pain in her leg, not the freezing cold weather.
"Jodi, get back here!" Her mother shouted. But of course she didn't listen. Why would she?
She kept running and running. It was too hard to see with all the snow. She was bumping into every tree she came across.
Jodi didn't realize how far she had gotten. She slipped on a broken log and fell down the hill. She kept rolling, hitting rocks as she continued falling.
When she reached the bottom, she couldn't help but to just lay there. Jodi was sure her leg was broken. Maybe even more. But that wasn't stopping her from running any further. She stood up to run again. But the pain was unbearable and she fell back down.
She decided to wait a bit longer, in hopes that a bear would find her and eat her. Or a mountain lion. But she was in the middle of a blizzard. They probably wouldn't be out. Maybe the hypothermia would get to her.
Jodi could hear footsteps coming her way. she wanted to cry, but it was as if the cold was freezing her tears. She didn't bother moving, maybe they'd think she died and go back home.
"Is she dead?"
That wasn't her mother's voice.
"No. She's still breathing."
