The five friends stood on the sideline waiting for Riley to appear. Shelby noticed Tyler looking around the crowd of people. "Don't worry. He's going to show up. Like Riley's ever late for anything." She assured.
"It's not Riley he's looking for." Chase remarked, a smirk plastered over his face.
"Oh, I see. Jodi." She mumbled.
"Relax, mate. I'm sure she'll be here any second." Chase assured.
"Jodi!" Koda called out.
"Seems though Tyler wasn't the only one looking for her." Ivan commented.
Jodi waved over at the group as she ran towards them. "Sorry, I'm late. The race hasn't started, has it?" She asked.
"No, you're just in time." Shelby smiled.
"Great." Jodi sighed.
"I see you brought your camera." Tyler pointed out.
"Yup." Jodi smiled. "I felt like this would be a great opportunity to learn and better my skills."
"When are you going to show us your pictures? I wanna see more of what you got." Chase asked.
Jodi threw him an innocent smile. "One day." She said.
"It's, Riley." Koda pointed.
They all turned around and spotted Riley heading towards them. From behind, Heckyl ran up to him with a cup of water. "Drink up. You need to hydrate."
"Thanks, Heckyl. But I got my own sports drink." Riley said."
Jodi could read disappointment all over his face. She honestly wanted to laugh. But it wouldn't be a good time.
"Hey, see you at the first checkpoint. Good luck, mate." Chase said, reaching over for a handshake.
"Thanks." Riley shook his hand, then took off towards the starting line.
"Let's get going. Can't have him beating us there." Shelby said.
"You coming?" Tyler asked.
Jodi show her head. "I'm gonna stay behind to take some pictures. But I'll meet you guys at the finish line later. Hopefully in time for Riley to finish."
"Come on, Tyler." Chase rushed.
"Be there in just a sec."
"Okay!"
Tyler turned back to Jodi. "I was thinking, hopefully soon, we could go on that date we had talked about. If you're still up for it of course. I understand if you don't feel like it anymore. I mean, it's been a while since I had asked you." He said, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
Tyler watched as her cheeks grew red. And so did her smile. "I'd like that a lot."
His heart skipped a beat at her smile. He didn't understand why someone would want to hurt her. And it was hard to believe that someone with such a warm smile had gone through so much. He wanted so badly to protect that smile of hers.
"I'll catch you at the finish line."
"Later." She waved.
She watched as Tyler ran back to other's They hopped in his car and then drove off. The smile she had quickly disappeared. "Oh, brother. Get me out of here. This heat is killing me."
"Then maybe you shouldn't have decided on always wearing turtlenecks." Heckyl mocked. "Now what am I supposed to do about Riley?"
"Should have knocked it out of his hand or something." Jodi mocked back. "What now?"
