(Y/N) was an Adeptus. Now that there was peace, she spent her time tending to requests sent from the people of Liyue. Her life was simple now: no more wars, no more fighting, no losses.
And things could almost be considered boring, until one day she...

There's a slight ringing in her ear. She doesn't know why. It's loud. It makes her feel stuffy. It makes everything seem so quiet and irrelevant, even when she wants to focus on her surroundings. She can barely see, like if the ringing is affecting her vision. She's doing her best not to stumble over her feet. All she can feel is an arm next to hers, something that she ended up leaning against the moment she sat down. Everything feels heavy, but it was mainly her heart that was weighing her down.
"(Y/N)," the voice is muffled, and for a second, she thought it belonged to Childe. Wouldn't that be wonderful? She turned her head, trying to zone back into reality, eyes slowly drifting up to golden eyes - not blue.
"(Y/N)," he repeated a bit more urgently, and she recognised him as Xiao. Oh.
"I'm fine," she said, the ringing clearing to a pang in her head, which only made everything feel more overbearing. She reached to her forehead, massaging it, groaning a little. Her palm was full of sweat, leaving a sticky feeling to her skin. Like blood. Her headache grew.
"... I didn't ask if you were," he said, intending to say that he knew that she was the opposite of fine, but sounding cold and dismissive. He blinked at his own words, looking at her to see her reaction.
She didn't process what he said, staring at her fingers. The corners of her eyes blurred.
"He will be okay," Xiao said, trying to be reassuring after a silent moment of contemplation. He had to sit and think what the best thing to say was, like he was attending an English exam and stuck between option B and C. He had eventually settled with the more conspicuous option, even if he doubted the impact would be great. He was unsure how to comfort someone - even if (Y/N) was the perfect example of a comforting person, he could never learn how to become one, despite the number of times she provided him comfort. His fingers clenched into fists. Why could he not be there for her when she needed it?
"You saw his condition," she refuted, even if she wanted to agree with him, wanted to think that he was right and all will be well, like the happy ever after at the end of a kid's fairytale.
"Baizhu is the best doctor we have here," he retorted. "Have a little hope."
"Some things aren't meant to..." she trailed off, turning her head away. She looked down the flight of stairs, hoping he wouldn't notice her tears. He did, but he didn't know how to stop them. Though, only a few slipped out before Baizhu returned.
(Y/N) stood up, suddenly feeling cold from the absence of Xiao's arm next to hers. But more important matters were present. "Is he okay? Can I see him?"
The doctor pursed his lips, adjusting his glasses. Truly, it made him distressed to see an Adeptus so concerned.
"Not exactly," he said, deciding not to sugarcoat his words. If the Harbinger did indeed end up passing away, he didn't want her to be shocked. She should be prepared to see it happen. After all, he was on the brink of it when they brought him here. "I've done what I can, but I'm not quite certain if it would work. I've never dealt with a patient affected by the consequences of an overused delusion - it might be up to him when he wakes up. I don't think it's the best for you to see him." Ah. He must be in a horrendous state. He must be pale, dying, from a loss of blood. From exhaustion.
