Meera

Clouds blur the sun descending into the horizon and golden sunshine gleaming beneath with the faintest visual of the moon. The picturesque view from the highest hill of the city, my eyes are blessed.

Letting out a long, exhausted sigh after a tiring day at work, at the place that screams comfort to me.

This is my routine on days when I feel restless due to the pumping organ in my chest beating mercilessly rapid. This happens every time I think about what Baba proposed to me this morning.

Marriage is one of my biggest anxieties. It's not that I don't want to get married or that I am against it but it's just that I don't feel ready enough.

Marriage is about acceptance, not from one but both sides and that is what scares me the most. I may look like the happiest woman from the outside but within me, it's all dark.

The darkest of dusks reside within the veneer of a pristine and widely beaming smile of mine.

I know what I took up was wrong but, I was not the one to blame there. I am a victim myself. Doesn't mean that just because I became a victim once I will be all my life, never.

They say if you want to put an end to a fight you will have to stop fighting. Utter bullshit, the truth is that the moment you drop your weapons to stop the fight, they start taking your silence as your defeat.

Defeat, something I hate with all my guts. Doesn't matter now, I own the bitches who once used to bark behind my back.

Driving back home from the outskirts of the city, I made one necessary stop. To get flowers, I love them. They are the only sign of liveliness in my graveyard of life.

A life that is nothing but just a pretence. The shield that keeps me from falling apart, is my family and my drive to not let people suffer the way I did.

Parking my car at the basement of the chateau I took the elevator straight to my room. Putting the Hydrangeas in a vase with some water I moved to the washroom.

Stripping off my clothes I stood under the shower for a good thirty minutes. The warm water streaming down my body relaxed my stiff muscles and my restless heart to a significant extent.

I changed into my nightwear took a red shawl and walked to my chhoti 's room. She was working on the presentation for tomorrow's Summit.

Hi Di, kaise ho? She greeted me with her ever-beaming smile plastered on her face. I hummed in response and she switched off her laptop. We walked down the stairs to find Bhai getting a massage from Dadi.

Jai Shree Krishna Dadi, both me and Chhoti wished her to which she replied with the same. I knew Dadu would be in his room, reading like always.

Kaisi ho dono princesses? I hope you're both geared up for tomorrow. Bhai asked us getting up. We replied positively in unison and chatted as we regularly do.

Dinner's served people, Maa called us and we followed each other like a train. We waited for Baba to join us which he did a couple of minutes later and motioned for us to begin.

Meera, what did you think about marriage? The one alliance that I proposed this morning with my friend's son. The Future King of Rajasthan? Baba questioned to which came a trail of reactions.

Maa's eyes widened, Dadu-Dadi stopped eating and both my overdramatic siblings' spoons dropped. I sighed.

What do you think Baba, if you can tell me more, please do. I countered just to avoid the topic for as long as I could.
