Meera
What the heck is going on in here? I know Chhoti was somewhere hesitant at the thought of my marriage but that doesn't mean she'll spew some utter bullshit.
She's dragging me over to the hall where our families might be waiting for us. Their faces came into view, frowns etched on their foreheads seeing my sister drag me towards them.
Chhoti, why are you dragging Meera like that? Bhai questioned.
She did not reply and called someone asking them to bring something.
All of you, are in big trouble people, I have a few things to tell my sister and many things to ask you all but, I request you all to listen to everything calmly and then state, if I am wrong, she stated.
Minutes later Advait Bhai walked in and handed over a phone to her, he eyed me and his eyes held an ocean of emotions I could not decipher.
He's like a brother figure to me and something that I saw in his eyes was worry, I don't know why.
Di was forced into this marriage wasn't she Baba? She questioned.
Everyone was shocked at her question but, Dadu's reaction was something I never expected. It was calm and composed, as if he already knew what was coming.
Kya bol rahi ho tum yeh, Advika? My father's tone was raised and stern.
Nah Baba, tell me if Di agreed willingly for the alliance or you forced her? She didn't budge. Thankfully, the guests had already left and it was just our families.
I cupped her shoulders and made her face me. Do you trust me or not, Bachcha? I asked her.
Her eyes had a sheen coating of tears but she answered firmly, Yes Di, I trust you a lot but, I don't trust them after what I have discovered, she added.
Everyone's eyes bulged out of their sockets upon the mention of some discovery.
What did you discover? I asked her.
Okay Di, whatever I am going to tell you and present you with, is surely disturbing but remember, you always have me, she affirmed.
Baba, please for god's sake speak the truth. If Di would've said no for this alliance, wouldn't you have forced her? What the hell is wrong with her.
Baba looked surprisingly nervous, he eyed everyone standing there before Dadu sighed. Tell her the truth, Dev. He said and my farther lowered his head not meeting my eyes.
Which seemed new to me considering he was the one who taught me, 'jab bhi kisi se baat karo, uski aankh mein aankh mila kar karo.'
Y-Yes, she did n-not have an option to say no. Thankfully, s-she agreed or else we would have to force her i-into this, he meekly answered.
As much as his answer took me by surprise, so did his tone. Stuttering was so unlike my father. I was shocked to hear it of course but, I know better to mask my emotions now. I know there's more to it and I want everything now.
Chhoti played one audio and the ground beneath my feet slipped. Baba's voice it was.
"I love both my daughters Shaurya, there's no question in it. But, I was not who I am now, I was a jerk back then, a naive and stupid utterly toxic man.
I did not respect women, in fact, I never respected my mother or my wife enough, before Meera.
The day Meera was born, I loathed the idea of having a daughter. To me, daughters were just a liability, a responsibility and a burden at that time.
