In space it is impossible to gauge the passage of time without a chronometer. Anakin had broken his on Bailth when he punched a Rodian thief attempting to make away with a crate of rations. If the man had been a desperate refugee, he might have looked the other way.

As it turned out the thief was black market scum looking to profit off others' misery. The man was now languishing in a Mid-Rim prison cell.

Anakin slowly unwound his arms from Cassandra's unconscious form and smoothed a hand over her cheek. He watched the rise and fall of her chest, making sure she still breathed.

When he pulled her out of the bath, her heart had stopped for a second. A terrifying second when Anakin's own heart shattered into a million pieces because he believed he lost her.

His commlink chimed.

Blood blisters covered Cassandra's arms from the virus. He winced sympathetically, knowing how painful they would feel when she finally woke up. Anakin adjusted the duvet around her towel-clad form, thinking he really should dress her in something else before they arrived in Coruscant.

His commlink flashed more insistently. With an aggravated sigh, Anakin pressed a button to answer the call. "What?" He snapped.

The hologram of Detective Divo regarded him with half-lidded eyes. A tenured member of the Coruscant Police Force, the detective handled investigations involving the Senate and other important people. "You left a message about an attempted murder, Master Jedi?"

His bland, disrespectful tone inflamed Anakin's temper. "Its General Skywalker!" He barked.

"General, I'll write up a report." Divo rolled his eyes and scrolled through a datapad. "But there's not much I can do until I investigate the scene of the crime which is currently in hyperspace."

The pompous detective talked down to Anakin like he was stupid. Divo had several complaints about his attitude.

He was never fired because he excelled at his job.

"Someone used a biological weapon against Cassandra Pierce, a citizen of the Republic while she was on a diplomatic mission to Mandalore."

It's the only conclusion Anakin could come to. Cassandra wasn't exposed to the Red Pox naturally, which meant someone had infected her with the virus deliberately.

"I see, I see." Divo drawled, tapping the datapad. "Do you have evidence of this biological weapon?"

"Not yet." Anakin admitted.

The detective regarded him flatly. "General, I require proof. I suggest you use your time aboard your ship wisely and investigate. Until then, I cannot file a report."

Anakin wanted to ring Divo's neck. The insolent pile of poodoo! "I'm aware of that, detective!"

Divo picked at his fingernails lazily. "Well, until you acquire the information, I'll put this on the back burner. I'm busy with more important investigations. Try not to waste my time in the future...General."
