They decided the kitchen was the first place to start.
Kate had the idea of growing small cacti so he could watch his growth over time.
He pulled the small paint kits, which they had gotten for free from Kate's mom, from the bags and slowly peeled back the plastic covering.
Beautiful colors popped out, his friend bringing over two cups filled with water.
"We each paint two small, one medium. Then, as they dry, we focus on the windows," she planned out loud.
Ethan dipped his brush into the water before gathering the paint onto the thin bristles. He stroked it easily across pot's bottom, creating a yellow line.
He worked on making his gradient, warm colored sunset as he glances over to see Kate working on her thick pine forest. She blew on the dark green and brown paint until she was able to add white on top, almost completing her winter land.
She left a small space open for her snow man, adding extra light gray for the right shadowing. Ethan finished a lot quicker than her, turning to his next pot as he set that one down to dry.
He began mixing purple with a light and dark gray, getting a mauve color. He used it to paint tall mountains. A light blue line created a river for the light green painted grass growing around it.
He worked carefully to add a small dead tree, to which had a small nest and red bird on it. He smiled at his worked and glanced again back over at Kate.
She, too, was almost finishing her second pot. The whole thing was covered in blue, the top a very vibrant light pastel that slowly blended into a deep navy that rested at the bottom.
Different colored fish, rocks, coral and seaweed were painted beautifully in different designs all around.
When he checked the time, over an hour had gone by. They had finished their four small pots, but their mediums still waited.
Ten minutes passed by as they both sat their, lost of ideas. Ethan finally sprung up excitedly, smirked confidently at Kate, and began mixing a brown tan with a light orange.
He slowly layered the bottom, creating small sand-covered patches around the bottom. He worked on a sum in the top middle with a bright yellow Sun. He creates brown limbs that stuck up at random curves.
Slowly 4 green leaves were added to the end of each, creating a small oasis. As the bottom dried, he worked on the right teal-blue that'd fill in between the spaces.
Kate had longed started on her by now. Her pot had a large brown turtle shell on it, with neon blue patterns imprinted onto each shell section.
Her turtle wrapped around the pot, the green flippers almost looking like it were hugging.
When they both finished, and grinned at their work, they srt them side by side.
While Kate's pots looked like they were done by a professional artist, and Ethan's looked like they were done by a kindergarten, it was all beautiful nonetheless.
Kate happily looked up possibly cacti in the area they could get to grow.
Ethan smiled happily as he remembered the days events. Kate's phone was leaned up against the wall, which held it up so they could peacefully watch a show together. She had fallen asleep, using her sweater as a pillow, a while ago.
He yawned and shifted where he laid, crossing his arms and resting his forehead on his forearm. He couldn't help but lazily smile at how happy he was since he had left home.
