Max and I woke up early, excited to go trick-or-treating later that evening. We spent the morning preparing our costumes. I was going to be Jason Voorhees (see picture above), while Max chose to dress as Michael Myers. After laying our costumes out neatly on the bed, we headed off to school.
When we arrived, I noticed the Stalkers — the only group who had already dressed up. They looked like they were arguing. Seriously, guys? Save the costumes for tonight.

After school ended, I grabbed my skateboard from my locker. I noticed the Stalkers approaching Max, so I walked over to her.
"H-Hi Max, I'm Dustin, and this is—"
"Lucas." Lucas cut Dustin off.
"Yea, I know," she started.
"The Stalkers," I finished.
"Uh, no. Actually... w-we weren't stalking you guys, we were just concerned because, you know, you guys are new and all..." Dustin said.
"Yea, yea, for your safety," Lucas butted in.
"For our safety?" I asked.
"Mmm-hmm. There are a lot of bullies here," Dustin said.
"So many bullies, it's crazy."
"Yea."
"Is that why you're wearing proton packs?" Max said, and I giggled.
"Well, these don't function but... I do have this handy-dandy trap here. And look! It even opens up here, look, look, look." 'opens' "Voila!"
"Cool, right?" they said. We just stared with unamused looks on our faces.
"No, okay, but um... so we were talking last night and you guys are new here, so you probably don't have any friends here to go trick-or-treating and you're scared of bullies. So we were thinking that maybe it would be okay if you come with us."
"I'd be okay?" I said.
"Yea. Our party is a democracy, and the majority vote—you guys can come," he finished.
"We didn't realize what an honor it was to go trick-or-treating with you guys," Max said sarcastically.
"Yea, we know where to get the full-size candy bars. We figured you guys would want in."
"That's presumptuous of you," Max said.
"Yea, totally. Uh, so... um, you guys will come?" he asked.
Max shut her locker door, and she and I made our way out of the school. In the distance, I heard Dustin saying, "We're meeting at the Maple Street cul-de-sac at 7:00. That's 7:00 on the dot." Then he started bickering with Lucas about what Max said and whether it was alright or bad.
Max and I exchanged a quick glance and laughed.
"So, are we actually going?" I asked.
"Yeah. Even if they're idiots, they're kinda funny. Plus, I'd love to scare the crap out of them. Deal?" she said.
"Deal," I replied.
Just then, I bumped into someone, those same hazel eyes looking right at me. "Sorry," I muttered, feeling my cheeks heat up.
"It's okay," Will said, blushing a little too.
I started walking away with Max, feeling Will's gaze on me the whole time. Max shot me a knowing look before breaking into a smirk.
"Aww, looks like little Y/N's got a crush," she teased.
"No, I don't," I reply, giving her a glare.
"We'll see about that," she said with a wink.
We finally got to Billy's car, he was leaning on the back of it smoking weed.
"you guys are late, again!" He said irritated.
