~Y/n POV~
We had been walking for a long while now. Tired, sweaty, but still locked in on the goal: finding the gate.
We pushed through another cluster of bushes, Dustin leading the way. He glanced down at his compass again.
"Something's happening," he said, staring as the needle began spinning wildly. Then, without warning, he broke into a run.
"Dustin. hey, slow down! Dustin!" Eddie called after him.
"I think we're getting close!" Dustin shouted back, barely slowing as he looked over his shoulder.
Eddie grabbed him just in time, yanking him back before he could charge straight into the water.
"Watch your step, big guy," Eddie said, steadying him.
Steve dragged a hand down his face. "Oh man. You've got to be shitting me."
"I thought these woods looked familiar," Eddie added.
"Lover's Lake," Robin said, recognition clicking.
"This is... confounding," Dustin muttered.
"There's a gate in Lover's Lake?" Max asked, frowning.
"Whenever the Demogorgon attacked, it left an opening," Nancy said, thinking out loud. "Maybe Vecna does the same thing."
"Yeah," Steve mumbled, already resigned. "Only one way to find out."
Eddie pulled the tarp off the small boat he'd hidden there earlier. He and Steve grabbed opposite sides, trying to drag it toward the water.
"Easy, man- I said easy," Steve warned, muscles straining.
"Sorry, dude."
"Yeah, I'm just gonna do that," Robin said, breezing past them and hopping into the boat.
Eddie climbed in next while Steve held it steady at the shore.
"Wheeler," Eddie said, holding a hand out to Nancy.
Dustin stepped forward eagerly, waving back at us with a grin as he moved to get in.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Eddie said, holding a hand up to stop him. "You trying to sink us?"
Dustin stared at him, confused.
"This thing holds three people. Tops," Eddie said firmly.
"It's better this way," Nancy said gently. "You guys stay here with Max and Y/n. Keep an eye out for trouble."
"You keep an eye out!" Dustin protested. "It's my goddamn theory!"
I knew it. The we're older, we make the rules routine.
"You heard Nance," Robin said.
"Who put her in charge?" Dustin asked.
"I did," Robin replied with a grin
"Compass," Nancy said, stepping forward.
Dustin sighed and started to hand it to her.
I swatted his hand down.
"Wait a minute," I said, stepping forward before anyone could push the boat off. "Let me get this straight. You're letting Mr. Most-Wanted Metalhead and Robin Hood here—" I gestured between Eddie and Robin, "—go into the lake... but not Dustin?"
Dustin perked up immediately.
"You know, the one who's been through literally every supernatural nightmare Hawkins can throw at us," I continued, crossing my arms. "The one who's basically the reason half of us are still breathing."
