~Y/n POV~
Beep! Beep! Beep!
My head shot up as my alarm blared through the room. I scrambled to shut it off before Max heard— but it was too late.
"Y/N?" she groaned, voice muffled in her pillow. "Why are you setting your alarm for seven in the morning?"
"Oh, no reason..." I said, way too quickly. "I'm just, uh— going to see Will."
"At seven in the morning?" she repeated, unimpressed.
"I know, I know!" I said, throwing on my jacket. "I'll be quiet, promise. Go get your beauty rest."
"Yeah, yeah," she muttered, shoving her pillow over her head again.
I changed fast, grabbed my skateboard, and ran out the door— only to find Dustin already waiting at the curb, grinning like an idiot.
"Wow, sure took you long enough," he teased.
"Shut up, Henderson," I said, hopping on my board as we started heading toward the mall.
By the time we got to Starcourt, Dustin was practically bouncing with excitement. His smile only got bigger when we joined the short line in front of Scoops Ahoy.
We stepped up to the counter.
"Hi!" Dustin greeted, his voice a little too eager.
Robin gave him a curious look. "Hi."
"I'm Dustin, and this is Y/N," he said proudly.
"She already knows me" I said with a smirk.
"Yeah." Robin said
"Pleasure to meet you!" Dustin said, before leaning forward. "Uh, is he here?"
"Is who here?" Robin started, but before she could finish—
"Henderson!" Steve popped up from behind the counter, grinning from ear to ear.
"Steve!" Dustin shouted back.
They immediately started jumping around, laughing and yelling like maniacs.
"He's back! He's back!" Steve said, clapping him on the shoulder.
"I'm back!" Dustin echoed, just as excited.
I rolled my eyes. "Boys."
"You can say that again," Robin muttered beside me, crossing her arms.
"You got the job!" Dustin said.
"I got the job!" Steve shouted back.
They did their ridiculous handshake, full of slaps, and god knows what else— before breaking into laughter.
Finally, Steve looked over at me. "Hey, Mayfield."
"Hi," I said dryly, though I couldn't help a small smile.
Robin raised an eyebrow. "How many children are you friends with?"
Steve just sighed dramatically. "Too many."

"No. No, no way! Hotter than Phoebe Cates?! No." Steve said, shaking his head as Dustin and I sat at the counter with our ice cream.
"Mmm-hmm! Brilliant too," Dustin said proudly, spoon in hand. "And she doesn't even care that my real pearls are still coming in."
"She says kissing is better without teeth."
I instantly choked on my ice cream, coughing into my napkin. "No— no. Teeth are way better," I said between laughs, while Steve nodded, grimacing like he just witnessed a car crash.
