~Y/n POV~

We didn't stop running.

The memories blurred past us as we tore through them, one after another, like they were collapsing behind us. Rooms, voices, flashes of things that didn't belong to the present, they all smeared together the faster we moved. None of it mattered. We weren't slowing down for anything.

That whole thing was insane.

The house. Vecna's leg snapping. Him dropping us. And then him calling me my girl.

Yeah, no. That wasn't him. I was pretty sure of that.

But then who the hell was it?

"Don't slow down!" Max shouted from behind me.

"Wasn't planning on it!" I shot back, not even turning around.

Holly was already ahead, and I followed right behind her, pushing through the Wheeler attic stairs and straight out the door. I didn't bother closing it. Didn't even think about it.

We hit the field at full speed, the grass whipping past our legs as we sprinted straight for the tree line.

Then into the woods.

Branches scratched at my arms as we ran, roots threatening to trip us with every step. The only sound around us was our breathing, fast, uneven, desperate, and the pounding of our feet against the ground.

No talking, No slowing down, Just running.

"Go, go, go!" Max shouted as the cave finally came into view.

We didn't hesitate. We rushed inside, one after the other, not stopping until we reached the rock at the back, the furthest, safest point we had.

And then we stopped.

I bent over slightly, hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath.

We were panting hard.

God, I hadn't run like that since fifth grade, when this kid Kai got us in trouble and we had to do hills until we thought we were gonna die.

"Hey—hey, you're okay. You're okay," Max said quickly, turning all her attention to Holly. "Just breathe. Slow down."

I stayed leaned over, dragging in air, my chest still tight.

"We're safe here. He can't get us here, okay?" Max added, softer now.

I finally looked over at them but Holly wasn't even looking at Max.

Her head was slightly turned, her gaze fixed somewhere off to the side, like she hadn't heard a word Max just said.

Shit.

Her face.

Tense. Distant. Not just scared, like something hadn't let go of her yet.

I mean, yeah, why wouldn't she be?

We'd just run like hell through a big ass forest, trying not to die. Running from a guy who wanted me and Max dead, and her to go with him like it was nothing.

But still, She should've been looking at Max.

I followed the direction of her gaze—

And my stomach dropped. Shit.

"Hey, Max," I said quietly.

She turned, following where Holly and I were looking, And her face immediately shifted.

Fear.

Vecna was limping his way toward the cave. Slow and deliberate.

His eyes glowing red like something was seriously wrong with him.
