~Y/n POV~

We watched as Erica looked through the vents with the flashlight.

"Yea, I don't know," she said, hopping down from the ladder.

"You don't know if you can fit?" Dustin asked.

"Oh, I can fit. I just don't know if I want to."

"Are you claustrophobic?"

"I don't have phobias," she snickered.

"Ok, well, what's the problem?" Steve asked as we all looked at her.

"The problem is I still haven't heard what's in this for Erica," she said, and we all sighed.

-------------------

We all sat around a table covered in plates and cones of ice cream as Steve pushed a sundae toward her.

She pushed it back to him.

"More fudge please," she says, with a glint in her eyes that reminds me of trouble.

"Go on," she shoos him off.

Steve sighs before heading back to the counter with the ice cream in hand.

"All right," Robin said, pulling the blueprints out for Erica to see.

"You see this, this is the route you're gonna take," she said, then flipped it to the other side.

"Then we just wait till the last delivery goes out tonight, then you knock out the grate, jump down, open the gate-"

"Then you find out what's in those boxes.?" Erica said.

"Exactly."

"And you say this guard is armed?"

"Yes, but he won't be there."

"And booby traps?"

"Booby traps?"

"Lasers, spikes in the wall?" Erica explains.

"What?" Robin laughs.

"You know what this half-baked plan sounds like to me? Child-endangerment," Erica says.

"Will be in radio contact with you the whole time—"

"Ah, ah, ah, Child-endangerment," Erica cut in.

"Erica, hi, uh... We think these Russians want to harm our country. Great harm. Don't you love your country?" Dustin asked.

"You cant spell 'America' without 'Erica,'" she said before slurping her shake loudly

"You cant spell 'America' without 'Erica,'" she said before slurping her shake loudly. That does make sense.

"Uh yeah, yea, oddly that's totally true," I said as she kept on slurping.

"So, so! Don't do this for us. Do it for your country, do it for your fellow man. Do this for America... Erica," Dustin said, as she finally stopped slurping her shake.

"Ooh, I just got the chills," she said, as Dustin looked at her in hope.

"Oh yeah, from this float, not your speech," she said, as Dustin's hope vanished a little.

"You know what I love most about this country? Capitalism. Do you know what Capitalism is?" she asked.

"Yes." "Yeah." were heard in response.

"It means this is a free market system, which means people get paid for their services depending on how valuable their contributions are. And it seems to me, my ability to fit into that little vent is very, very valuable to you all," she said, causing us to look at each other with worry.

"So you want my help? This USS Butterscotch better be the first of many, and I'm talking free ice cream for life," she emphasized the words for life before taking a cherry from the top of an ice cream cone, biting it off its stem, and flicking it on the table.

-------------------

"Erica, do you copy?" Robin asked into the walkie, as we waited on the roof.

"Uh-hu. You nerds in position or what?" she answered.

"Yea, we're in position," Robin said.

"It's all quiet here, so you have the green light," Robin added.

"Green light, roger that. Commence operation child endangerment," she said.

"Can we maybe not call it that?" Robin asked.

"See you on the other side. Nerds," she said.

-------------------

"Alright nerds... I'm there," we heard from the walkie as Robin immediately answered it.

"Do you—Do you see anything?" Robin asked, her voice tense.

"Yea, I see those boxes you're so excited about," Erica responded in a bored tone, her words dripping with nonchalance.

"Any guards?" Robin asked quickly, scanning the area around her.

"Negative," Erica said.

"Booby traps?" Robin pressed again, glancing at us for reassurance.

"If I could see them, they'd be pretty shit traps, wouldn't they?" Erica said snarkily. We all exchanged annoyed looks.

"Thank you for that," Robin said sarcastically, forcing a fake smile as she tried to hide her frustration. We waited a second, listening intently through the walkie.

"I'm in," she stated calmly, and we all sighed in relief—except Steve.

"Oh god," he muttered, grabbing a fistful of his hair as if the tension might pull it out.

We looked up just in time to see the elevator door slide open. Erica stepped out, boxes stacked behind her, and we couldn't help but stare in amazement, shaking our heads in disbelief.

"Free ice cream for life," she said, wagging a finger at us like a triumphant general.

We all got up and started making our way toward Erica and the boxes, our excitement barely contained.

"I never doubted her," Steve said, a grin breaking through his stress.

"Yea right," me, Dustin, and Robin replied in unison, exchanging smirks before continuing down, ready for whatever came next.
