Happy late Fourth of July everyone!
~Y/n POV~
As we walked in and looked around at all the boxes scattered everywhere, Steve grabbed his switchblade and cut the tape sealing one shut. We leaned in and saw a tiny vault inside. As Steve twisted the handle, the door opened, revealing four small containers with little metal grips.
"That's definitely not Chinese food," Steve muttered.
"Uh, maybe you guys should, you know... stand back," he said, motioning for us to move. The three of us girls stepped back—except Dustin.
"No," Dustin argued stubbornly.
"Just step back."
"No."
"Step back!"
"No!"
"Step back, seriously!"
"No! If you die, I die," Dustin said confidently.
I rolled my eyes at his stubbornness. Steve looked at him in disbelief before shrugging.
"Okay," he said, lifting one of the containers by its handle. Inside was a strange, glowing green liquid.
"What the hell?" Steve muttered, staring at it.
"What is that?" Robin asked, her brows furrowed.
Before anyone could answer, the room rumbled lightly beneath us. We froze.
"Was that just me, or did the room just move?" Dustin asked.
"No, Dustin, you're the only one," I said sarcastically, earning an annoyed glare from him.
"Booby traps!" Erica exclaimed.
Mechanical noises whirred around the room.
"You know what, let's just grab that and go," Robin said, snatching the liquid from Steve and shoving it into her bag. Me and Dustin ran to the control panel, where he started slamming buttons.
"Which one do I press, Erica?" Dustin yelled.
"Just press the damn button, nerd!" she shouted back.
"Which one—"
"I'm pressing the button, okay!" Dustin snapped, glaring at her.
"Press 'open door!'" Erica barked.
"He's pressing 'open door!'" I yelled back.
"Just—press the other button!" Steve said, rushing over to start hitting buttons himself.
"Guys, get out of the way so she can press—"
"Would you stop!"
"I'm trying!"
"Would you let me just do it!"
"Would you stop!!"
We all yelled over each other, slapping every button in sight.
"Just open the door!" Robin screamed as the floor trembled again.
We looked around just in time to see the walls beginning to close in. The lights flickered. Then, the elevator suddenly dropped.
We all screamed.
"SHIT! SHIT!" Dustin shouted, scrambling to the buttons.
"We're going down! WE'RE GOING DOWN!" Steve yelled.
"Yeah, no shit, Harrington!" Robin and I yelled back, clutching the wall.
"WHY DON'T THESE BUTTONS WORK?!" Dustin shouted, slamming his fists down.
