~~~Y/N POV~~~
"Y/N, you coming?" Robin called over her shoulder as she climbed up the ladder to the roof.
"Yeah, just give me a sec," I said, waving her off. She nodded and disappeared through the hatch.
I pulled out my walkie-talkie and pressed the button. "Will? It's me. You there?"
Static. Then—
"What?"
His tone was sharp enough to make me flinch. "Whoa—hey, are you okay?"
"I'm fine."
"You don't sound fine, you sound kinda—"
"I said I'm fine! Just—just leave me alone and go make out with Dustin or something."
The line went dead with a harsh click.
For a second, I just stood there, staring at the walkie. Then my throat tightened, and the tears came before I could stop them. I pressed a hand over my mouth, trying to hold it together, but anger rushed in fast behind the hurt.
The walkie hit the wall before I could think twice. Plastic cracked against concrete. I didn't care.
Grabbing my raincoat, I shoved it on and headed for the roof, ignoring the broken walkie spitting out bursts of static behind me.
~Will's POV~
As soon as the words left my mouth, I knew I'd screwed up.
Y/N had only been checking in, she always did. She cared, even when no one else bothered. And I just... bit her head off.
I grabbed my walkie again, pressing the button so hard it hurt. "Y/N, wait! Please, I didn't mean it, okay? I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, just, say something."
Silence.
My stomach dropped. "Dammit!" I slammed my fist against the walkie in anger. "I ruin everything."
I started running to my house, hoping this nightmare would end.
~Y/n POV~
Once I got there, I crouched down where they were.
"What are we looking for?" I asked.
"Imperial Panda and Kaufman shoes," Robin replied, while Dustin scanned the area through binoculars. From a distance, a man started whistling.
"There, with the whistling guy. Ten o'clock," Dustin said, pointing. We followed his direction and spotted the man.
"What do you think's in there?" Steve asked.
"Guns, bombs?" Dustin suggested.
"Chemical weapons?" Robin added.
"Or anything to use to destroy America," I said.
"Whatever it is, they're armed to the teeth," Dustin stated.
"Great. That's great," Steve muttered sarcastically, rubbing his eyes against the rain. We watched the whistling man as another man slid a keycard into a door, letting him inside.
"Hey, what's in there?" Robin asked as Dustin studied the building.
"It's just more boxes," he replied.
"Let me check it out," Steve said, reaching for the binoculars, but Dustin pulled them back.
"No, I'm still looking."
"Lemme see!"
"Hang on!"
They shouted over each other, shoving back and forth, until Dustin slammed the binoculars on the building. Immediately, the guards raised their guns and went on high alert.
