i was back in the undercroft now with the two variants from the multiverse secured in their cells. i had been trying to calm them down and give them some answers while peter and juno hung back to fix the electricity towers they had torn to shreds during their little fight. i tried my best to ignore the questioning looks that ned and mj were sending my way as i spoke to them, specifically max, as if they were old friends. this somehow felt even harder to do than when i told juno i wasn't from this universe. i heard them both roam back into the basement where their computers were set up and that's when i let a long breath pass through my nose. "so how the hell did you end up here?" max asked after a moment. i was floating in midair in front of his cell with my legs crossed, "ask the osborn twins."

a chuckle flew from him, "they got you here?" my brows furrowed, he obviously knew something i didn't. "what do you mean?" my voice was low in the echoey room as he moved to lean against the stone wall of his enclosure. "well who do you think got me out of ravencroft, connors? they got me out and we took back oscorp." it made sense, he could take over the mainframe and they could get the serums my father and peter's father had created. "jade was dead set on getting that stuff from the basement all so she could get revenge on you...from the looks of it she got what she wanted." i bit my lip to stop it from quivering as my head lowered to stare at my hands in my lap, "she didn't get what she wanted...she wanted me dead that night and she was damn close to getting it too."

i composed myself before looking back up at him. memories of max before his own fall flashed through my head, how kind he was back then. that version of himself wasn't that far away in his mind but to me it felt like centuries ago. the man that i had flown to work that morning on his birthday and the man that peter had saved. i knew that version of him was still there only buried in the anger that had consumed him. a deep groan echoed from behind me drawing me from my daze and i instantly knew who had just woken up. "so daddy dearest got drug here too huh?" max pipped up only for me to roll my eyes.

"still playing mind games are we darling?" the lizard said looking me up and down as i remained in the air in front of max's cell. "don't want me to keep playing with that screwed-up mind of yours?" i shot over my shoulder not even giving him the pleasure of meeting his gaze. "that's your dad?" the sand man's dusty finger moved between the two of us making max chuckle to himself. "can't you tell the resemblance sandy?" i groaned into my palms as i lowered back down to the ground. i heard footsteps going down the stairs to the undercroft and took that as my cue to leave the celled room.
