"What are you doing." I heard two voices say at the same time. I turned around and saw that Frypan and Thomas staring at each other. Both amazed they said the exact same thing at the same time.
"I am done." I simple stated. I grabbed Thomas' hand and took him to a nearby chair. I put a pair of scissors in his hand and I took a seat on the chair.
I grabbed my hair in a ponytail and measured it. I held it in my hands with two hands. One hand lower to the ground and the other one closer to my scalp. There was a small area between my hands.
"Cut it." I told Thomas.
"What?" He questioned flabbergasted.
"My hair is too long to function normally, so please cut it." Without another word I felt Thomas' hand grabbing my pony tail.
I heard a slight cut and saw some hair falling to the ground out of the corner of my eye. I sat there for less than 5 minutes.
"Okay, all done." Thomas said. I heard footsteps getting closer. I turned around and saw Frypan nodding his head in approval.
"It suits you." He told me.
"Thanks." I said with a proud smile. I cleaned up the hair and put it in the trash. I made my way outside towards Newt, who was cleaning up for the day.
He stood still once I approached him. My hair now came just an inch below my shoulders. It felt lighter and somehow cleaner.
"This is not a great time." Newt started. Before I could question him I saw him turn around and gave me a small wooden box. I took a look at it. There was a brush in it with hair-ties, a toothbrush and a thin black hoodie.
"B-but it suits you." Newt stammered a bit. I gave him a small smile. He was really trying to be on my good side. Ever since he said I was a girl I made him regret his words. Not hurting him, obviously. I just proved to him that I could do any job a guy could and maybe even better.
Not the slicers job though. But not a lot of people had the stomach for it. Ben told me he threw up when he came into the shed. Which I obviously laughed at, even though I also almost did that too.
Newt and I cleaned everything up for the day. I was tired and needed a quick rest. Because I would be up earlier than normal.
I went to my hammock once dinner was over and everyone went to sleep. I still had to wait for them to make a hut for me. Only Newt and Alby really had their own rooms, but since I was a girl they decided to make a room for me too.
I do feel bad that they have to make one for me, as I would not be here in the morning.
As I waited for everyone to fall asleep I sneaked my way towards the Homestead. I saw a vest hanging on the walls that the runners use. I packed up a bottle of water and put it in my vest.
The vest also had place for two knives in the front. I am no fool, I know there is something out there in the maze to be scared off. I heard them the first night I was here, but I brushed it off.
I put the many hair-ties around my wrist and put one in my hair. I made a half up half down hairstyle. I grabbed some sandwiches and put them inside the back-pocket of the vest.
I heard the walls open up and I breathed in. I jogged out of the Homestead and made my way towards the front of the walls. I looked to the side where I saw my name written on the stone wall.
Once I remembered my name, Newt took me here with Alby to carve my name into wall. I wrote down 'Cassie' as I liked it way more than 'Cassieopeia', they don't need to know my real name.
Newt laughed at my name written on the wall. I laughed too as it looked like a 5 year old wrote it. I told him to carve in a C on the wall, and then see who is laughing last.
I chuckled at the memory. Newt and I went back and forth on that matter for like half a day.
I shook my head left and right, making the memory disappear from my mind. I rolled my shoulders to loosen them up and stretched my legs. I started to slowly jog, first left than right, straight, left again and straight and so on.
