Not just a Girl || Newt

Chapter 53

I nodded my head at her.

"Why are you here?" This came from Aris and I saw his eyes were a red colour. Did he not get over Teresa yet? Nevermind I could never just get over Newt too.

"I heard they were moving you guys and I had to be close to you."

"This will get you killed." Liz scolded me making me laugh.

"I will kill everyone who touches me and you know that."

She shook her head, but a smile came on her lips, nevertheless.

She wanted to say something else, but the train slowly started to stop again.

There was a loud banging against the train. I felt the vibrations going through my seat as the banging was right next to me.

"Minho." I heard a muffled voice from outside.

Thomas.

Everyone started to yell out at the same time. Pulling their chains roughly and me doing the same.

I heard a combustion right next to me on the outside of the cart.

"Don't rush me." Was a muffled voice that I instantly knew was Newt's.

Tears welled up into my eyes as I haven't heard his voice in over 3 months. I tried to scream for him, but I have lost my voice.

I felt the cart shake and felt gravity pulling me down, we were flying through the air.

We are finally saved.

My eyes finding Liz and Aris, both having happy tears rolling down their cheeks.

Once our cart finally was placed down on the ground I saw people coming into the cart. I have never seen them, but I felt at ease when I saw that they were wearing normal clothes and not WCKD armour.

Someone untied my chains and as quickly as I could I made my way outside in the fresh air. Everyone was walking all over the place. My eyes searching for one person.

Newt.

I made a beeline when I saw him scanning the group before his eyes connected with mine.

I threw my arms around his neck and let out a sob. My face was warm against his neck as I cried my eyes out.

"I'm sorry lady, but I have a girlfriend."

I quickly pulled away from him and scanned his face, only his eyes wouldn't connect with mine. His eyes were going over all the people that – with their help – escaped WCKD.

My heart broke.

Did he really move on that fast from me. Didn't we have something special?

"Newt." A voice said behind him, I looked over his shoulder to see Thomas. "Minho isn't in the cart."

Newt let out a small 'oh', his eyes still moving over the kids.

I still stood somewhat before him. I couldn't move and I couldn't speak.

Who was the girl he liked so much. Who was the girl that made him move on from me so fast.

"Lizzy." Newt pushed me aside and I turned around to see them in a big hug.

Liz's eyes found mine and hers also showed total confusion. She must have seen Newt not giving a care in the world for me.

I moved my eyes away from them, tears falling from my eyes. Until they connected with Thomas.

He looked at me strangely, making me let out a whimper.

Did WCKD get to them again? Did they erase me from their mind?

Thomas went to take a step towards me, but I quickly made my way the other way. A hand over my mouth, keeping in the sobs.

I bumped into people saying 'sorry' each time I went through them.

I went to one of the tents and saw a small mirror hanged up there with rope. I looked at myself. I honestly did a great job on painting my hair a different colour, but I hated it so much. It made me look like my father.

I went to the sea that was nearby and crouched down before it. I cupped water into my hands and started to rinse out the black paint.

"What are you doing?" Someone said behind me.

I turned around to see no other than Frypan standing there. His eyes grew wide.

"Cassie?"

My lips started to tremble.

"You remember me?" I softly said, tears rolling down my cheek.

"Of course I remember you!" Frypan almost sounded offended. He opened up his arms out and I flew into them.

I cried into his chest, while he tried to calm me down.

"H-He d-doesn't-"

"Take it slowly."

I took in one deep breath and pulled away from our hug.

"Hedoesn't remember me."
