[2 years later, summer:]
Since the dissolution of both AGI and TOL after our fight in the main city, a lot has changed. As if the world has turned upside down, putting the Gifted into a new light.
There were tons of paperwork that had to be prepared for court.
Those of TOL or AGI who clearly were not supporting or aware of their plans, were spoken free and released with a warning.
And most of those who still hadn't changed their mind, such as doctor Snyder for example, were sentenced to go to specialized prison. All of this to make sure no organizations were founded ever again.
Everyone who contributed to our scheme had a hard time attending to many court cases, explaining why and how it all happened.
In the end, we were told that all of us had the right to continue a normal life, using our abilities for the greater good.
Looks like Mr. Chardis has taught us well.
It was most surprising to hear how masses of people started supporting Gifted, no matter if they were from the academy or TOL.
Apparently they understood how no one had other options, and now that we all do, life has gotten a new meaning.
Even though Ben's family hadn't had it all that easy. When word got out that Rose Harris, who was in charge of the IGO laboratory too, was a fraud, the family's last name became a shame for them.
Although they've gotten proven innocent, since only the headmistress was aware of the scheme.
So what did they do?
Exactly, they've changed it from Harris to Lewis.
In the end, against all odds, we all managed to get a new life, a better life.
Or to improve other people's lives, like Ms. Volkov does.
She and Wade Dalton founded several helping centers, a place where Gifted people can learn to control their abilities. All of that without any fear of being used or controlled.
While we're talking about them, I got to say that Zain and Sasha became friends since their older siblings are together now.
Like I said before, many things changed, our appearances did too.
I was told by Zain that Sasha has cut her hair into a pixie cut, a sign that her mother isn't able to command her anymore.
Also, Emilia finally could get the medical help she needed. At the present, she, Andrew, Sasha and Zain live at Ms. Volkov's and Wade's place.
If there is one thing worth mentioning, then it's Zain's sudden relationship with Eric.
It caught all of us by surprise, especially me.
Who would have thought?
Their group made up their minds to go to college. Eric studies Economics in order to take on the family business, Zain is in an IT students group and Samir made it into an art course.
George chose a different path than though. He decided to make his dream come true and pursue a career at one of the biggest aquariums in the state.
As for my close friends, not all of us managed to stay as close.
But our friendship hasn't wavered, it's quite the opposite, actually.
After lots of writing I put my pen down and stretch in my seat. Taking a look at the ticking clock, notice it's time to go as it is already 1 p.m..
In the next moment, I walk down the stairs of the small but comfy house.
So while I put my shoes on, Carmine walks into the corridor, reminding me once again:
"Alright, have a great time, and remember to be back at a reasonable hour."
I reply with a nod:
"I will, dad."
"One more thing-" he adds, his tone shifting to concern. "What's your relationship with- what was his name... Aiden like?
You've been friends with him for years now and I was wondering if that was something I should be concerned about."
Oh my, this is where it begins. I
need to neutralize the atmosphere as to not worry him too much.
Shaking my head and smiling, I stand up:
"We're just friends. I don't see what the big deal is."
More than just friends, actually. But I really don't want him to ask questions about all that.
At least... not yet.
He laughs slightly:
"I guess I'm getting all parental on you, huh? Okay, okay. I trust your judgment.
Just be safe, and be back before it gets too dark."
