(Layla Hart pov.)
"Well, are you going to let me in, or should I wait outside?" The intruder insists.
"Ms. Volkov?!" Everyone exclaims with surprise except Zain who shows less shock:
"Alya?"
Jian lets her in and closes the door behind them, the wooden cane accompanies her, as always.
Additionally, she's wearing a beige long coat.
"You're all here? Good." Ms. Volkov says when she surveys all of us.
"Wha- HOW did you find us?"
"Are you going to report us to the academy-?"
"Whoa, one question after another." She starts explaining "First of all, I found you because of the tracker in Zain's phone. So it was really easy." She pats her little sister's head.
"I'm sorry, why do I have a tracker in my phone?" Asks Zain as she pushes her hand away.
"Well, for situations like this, I presume. Кстати, ты воды сегодня пила?"
(*By the way, did you drink water today? *)
"Да." Zain answers in Russian.
(*Yes.*)
"Молодец."
(*Well done.*)
She turns to the others:
"As for the second question, no. I won't report you to the academy, I was the one who got you out of there.
That's why none of you got controlled by the Psyrenthium element."
"The what the what now?" Asks Valerie with confusion.
"Alright, let me indulge you.
It's an element created to control the mind of whoever takes a dose of it.
All of the students did, everyone but you. Remember the New Years Feast?"
"The food..." Jian realizes "We didn't eat it."
"Exactly. I was instructed to make sure that every student is present at the feast. Naturally, I would have to report you to the principal, or make sure that all of you would attend. *sighs* All the teachers knew about the plan, me included, but I wanted to prevent it from happening.
Even though I wasn't sure how, despite that, when I saw you escape the academy's grounds, I figured there was still hope for you.
Also, how do you think you were able to escape the academy just now? I had to distract everyone so they wouldn't notice you all lurking around. And quite noticeable, your bunch, I must say."
Then Ms. Volkov must've prepared the omnibus for us as well.
Just how many steps ahead is she?
"But... why would the academy do something like this?" Samir wants to know.
"Because TOL is onto something. They have a big plan, and we don't know what it is.
The academy wanted to make sure they're armed enough to defeat whatever is coming, they're all getting desperate.
And because they need agents who follow orders perfectly they invented this element a while ago." Ms. Volkov clarifies with a serious face.
"And you're the only one who doesn't truly support that idea, right?" Amaya assumes.
"Yes, I always knew something's wrong with the academy. Which is why I waited for them to show who they really are." she rubs her forehead "Guess every organization is all about controlling everything."
For a moment, there's just silence as we all try to digest the information we've just gotten.
"So...what should we do now?" Zain asks.
"Right now, we can't do much. Even though were not affected, we can't go against the academy and I have no idea what TOL plans. Not only that, but we don't even know how good their agents are." She clarifies.
"Well, actually we kinda fought three of them." Aiden reveals.
"What?" Ms. Volkov sharply turns towards him.
"Yeah, it happened when we ran away during the feast..." Amaya starts telling her what happened, in detail.
[After lots of explaining:]
Ms. Volkov looks at her students, still processing it all:
"Well at least you got some experience as agents now, I suppose."
"Yeah, I wouldn't want to be an agent honestly..." Valerie admits.
"Believe me, you don't." She shakes her head.
I really don't know what to do. With Ms. Volkov here, my chances of getting through with the plan without suspicion are near zero.
