The world around him was a blur. His body numb, head spinning, enraged pain throbbing in the left side of his torso and face. He didn't know how bad it was, but he couldn't open his left eye. Endeavour feared he may have lost it. He could only concentrate on his breathing.
The slow rhythmic thumping of helicopter blades thumped in his good ear like a heartbeat. The reporter inside the helicopter gapping at the window trying to see through the smoke as they relayed back to Japan7 News.
The wing from the blades blew away the smoke from his landing to reveal the singed black body of the High-End Nomu. Endeavour dropped his right arm and the ground seemed to tilt.
He was suddenly supported by something and Hawks was there under his massive body keeping him on his feet. The Number One Hero can't fall at a time like this. He needs to stay standing to show the world what he's done here today.
The young hero was looking at Endeavour with proud eyes and a happy smile. The bridge of his nose was bleeding and he was missing half his visor.
"That's All Might's pose, you know." stated Hawks. He could feel Endeavour's muscles giving up and the fall and rise of his chest. He was in a bad shape. Soon to be worse if he didn't get help soon.
"No, different arm..." replied Endeavour, short of breath. "He used his left."
"Who cares about that. I'm just grateful you won!"
"Zero points. What a sorry start for me."
"If I may disagree. This victory of yours today was absolutely huge!"
Kinetic came jogging and was quick to help Hawks lower the Flame Hero gently to his knees. "That was intense, Enji." Kinetic says, a hand on Endeavour's shoulder. He gave his comrade a huff; an attempted sound at laughing. "But you still won. Haha, I haven't done this much work in nearly six years."
A smile came to Hawks's face, and there was a single, soft raspy chuckle from Endeavour.
"We have to do something about those bleeding wounds." Hawks informed.
"I can't move... call someone for help..."
Kinetic turned on his heel. "I'm on it! Keep him awake, Hawks. I'll be back as soon as I can."
Hawks nodded in understanding, keeping Endeavour upright with his own smaller body. Kinetic gave the young hero a smile. He looked up. His proud smile dropped and all colour drained from his face. He was looking at something unblinking. Another Nomu? His feet felt like they were tied to bags of bricks thrown into the ocean; unable to move under the crushing weight.
It was the feeling when your heart dropped into your stomach.
Hawks followed Kinetic's gaze. His smile dropped. His heart pounding in his ribcage. (They're not meant to be here.) Nothing was going the way they said it would go. Hawks knew this was a test to see if he could keep up his facade. Or was it a test?
There was a single tall figure coming towards them from the evaporating smoke; and the shadowy figure split into two. "Just a minute now." The taller shadow speaks, with a gravely voice. "None of this is how we planned it, but that's fine."
Together from the smoke, Dabi and Stardust reveal themselves through the dwindling haze that danced around their bodies with lazy fingers, but desperate to cling onto them as they swiftly walked through. Both Villains had wide smiles on their faces.
Kinetic stood straight and broadened his shoulders. "... Miya."
"Well, Endeavour. Should I say nice to meet you?" Dabi introduced himself first. There was a coy look in his low-lidded blue eyes. "Aint this a treat, huh, baby?" says Dabi. "Both Kinetic and Endeavour, here together. No one told us they'd be here." His words were violently directed at Hawks.
