Weeks had passed.
The evening had settled into a thick, oppressive silence, the safe house hidden deep in the woods feeling more like a tomb than a refuge. Miya sat on the ragged couch in the corner, arms crossed over her chest as she stared blankly at the wall, her mind racing with thoughts she didn't want to entertain. Dabi leaned against the far wall, his eyes closed, but she knew he wasn't sleeping. Not with the way tension buzzed around them like a live wire.
Spinner and Skeptic sat at the makeshift table, hunched over a small device, while Toga sprawled across the floor, drawing aimless circles in the dust with her fingertips. The air felt thick, too still, as if something monstrous was building just beyond the horizon. They were all waiting—waiting for a sign, for news, for something to break the suffocating calm that had wrapped around them since Tomura Shigaraki had disappeared into battle.
The flickering light from the old lamp in the corner cast long shadows over the room as the sound of static crackled to life. Skeptic frowned as he adjusted the small radio he'd rigged together, muttering under his breath. It had been weeks since they'd heard anything solid from the outside world, just fragmented reports and rumours. But now, something felt different.
And then it came. The voice over the airwaves was urgent, crackling and distorted but unmistakable.
"This is a live report... Tomura Shigaraki is engaged in battle over the Pacific, just off the coast of Japan... facing America's Number One Hero, Star and Stripe!"
The room seemed to freeze. Miya's breath caught in her throat, and she felt her pulse quicken as she processed the words. The weight of what was happening struck her like a blow to the chest. Tomura was fighting her. The hero they all knew was a force of nature, a symbol of America's might.
Spinner stood abruptly, knocking over his chair. "No way. He's really fighting her? In the air? Over the ocean?"
Skeptic's fingers tapped nervously against the table, his eyes narrowed behind his glasses. "This is insane. Star and Stripe's Quirk—she can change reality itself. Shigaraki might be strong, but against her? It's like throwing yourself into a storm."
Dabi opened his eyes, the blue flames flickering faintly in his palms as he processed the information. He didn't say anything, but Miya could feel the shift in him, that subtle anger bubbling just below the surface, mixing with a darker emotion she couldn't quite place.
Toga, usually bubbling with energy, seemed unnaturally quiet, her eyes wide as she looked between the others. "She's the one who could really kill him, isn't she?" she asked, her voice soft, almost childlike in its fear.
Miya felt a knot tighten in her stomach. She knew Toga was right. Star and Stripe was no ordinary hero. She was a legend, a warrior who had taken down the most powerful villains America had ever seen. And now, she was here, facing Tomura, and the consequences of that fight would ripple across the world.
The radio crackled again, the reporter's voice frantic as they described the scene unfolding above the ocean.
"The battle has reached critical levels. Star and Stripe's Quirk, New Order, is pushing Shigaraki to the limit. Reports indicate that entire sections of the sky are disintegrating... the shockwaves are being felt miles away on Japan's coast. It's like two gods are clashing in the heavens—"
Miya swallowed hard, her fingers digging into her palms as the anxiety crept up her spine. This was more than just another fight. This was the kind of battle that would change everything. If Tomura lost...
Dabi's voice broke the silence, low and harsh. "This is what we've been waiting for." He pushed off the wall, walking toward the center of the room, his eyes burning with something dangerous. "If Shigaraki wins, everything falls into place. If he loses..." He trailed off, his lips curling into a grim smile. "We burn everything down ourselves."
