Deacon
Okay, maybe I over-reacted and Daisy is now pissed at me. I can't say that I blame her but that guy, well he was a jerk. How dare he put his hands anywhere near Daisy. It made me see red, I felt as if steam was coming out of my ears and then some. Man, I was ready to rip his damn head off.
I'm standing at the bar getting the round in, feeling like a prize jerk. I bet she doesn't speak to me now for days. Great, I'll be the receiving end of the silent treatment from the one and only girl I truly want to be with.
Abe comes to serve me as soon as he finished with old man Jenkins at the end of the bar, I swear that man is over ninety. Apparently, he reckons a shot of brandy every night keeps the doctor away. He may just be right there. I'll have to follow his lead at some point.
"Came on a bit strong there, hey Marshal." Abe says as he leans with his forearms on the other side of the bar.
"Yeah, maybe but it did look like he was hassling, Daisy."
"That as it may be, that woman can look after herself besides she's with her girls they can all handle a man trying to come on to any of them."
I don't say anything except order the drinks. "Whatever the ladies are drinking and a couple of cold ones for Logan and I."
"Coming right up and Marshal, no more throwing your weight around in my bar if you don't mind. I can handle anything that gets out of hand." His eyes are stern and I get what he's saying. We've been friends a long time even though he calls me Marshal, ever since I took over the title here in Willowbrook he hasn't called me anything else. It amuses me since he, Logan and I used to run up trees together, scrape our knees coming off skateboards and the such like, not to mention all the other mischief we'd get up to.
"I'll give you a hand with the drinks. Go sit yourself down. You want a tab?" He asks me.
"Sure, a tab will be perfect. I don't think the ladies are going to be done anytime soon. I'll be on soft drinks after this one since I have the early shift tomorrow and need to have a clear head."
"You got it."
I go make my way back to the table and notice that Daisy is now giving me the evil eye. Fantastic.
"We've 'put in our karaoke songs." Sage tells me. "You're singing a duet with Daisy." She looks rather smug with herself. Logan is chuckling. I glare at him.
"I don't think that's a great idea, Sage." Daisy tells her future sister-in-law. "I'm not singing anything with Deacon, he's annoyed me."
Tsk, really? I was saving her from some asshole and this is the thanks I get. Seriously, I don't think I was too out of order, okay so grabbing him by the collar way maybe a little extreme but it'll teach him to hit on women that don't want his attention. Some guys can't take no for an answer and that Saunder or whatever his name is, was one of those type of guys.
"Too late. We've written everything on the paper. Eliza and Sadie are going up with Lottie to sing an Abba song." Sage shows Daisy the paper.
"Yeah but Lottie and I could do a song together, we sound great when we're singing."
"Oh no you don't." Lottie says and wags her finger at Daisy. "I'm going up to be part of the Abba gang. You and Deacon are stuck with each other." She takes a sip of her large wine glass. These ladies could get out of control very soon the amount of wine they're knocking back, I for one wouldn't want to have the hangover that's coming their way tomorrow morning.
I don't mind singing alongside Daisy, I'd do literally anything to be close to that woman. Even though I can't sing, well I don't think so in any case. "So, what are we singing?" I ask Sage who is the master of the list. "And is Logan going up with you Sage only he could sing with Daisy?" Not that I want to get out of being on stage and close to Daisy singing some kind of romantic song, but I know that right now I am not in her good books and the last thing I want to do is piss her off anymore or make her feel uncomfortable.
"Logan's singing with me. We're doing one of our own songs we wrote way back when." Logan places an arm around his woman, they are the perfect couple. I speak for everyone in Willowbrook, when I say we couldn't be happier that after ten years, these two found their way back to one another.
Daisy knocks her wine back and glares at me with narrowed eyes. She looks so damn fucking cute right now, that all I want to do is go over to her and smack a kiss right on those pouty lips of hers. It would be worth a slap in the face. I've not fallen out with Daisy since we were teenagers and I promised to go round and help her with some math homework. I got way laid by a girl named Lucella who was insistent I take her to prom and wouldn't take no for an answer. In the end I gave in because I didn't want to let her down but boy was Daisy mad as hell at me for that one and standing her up for math homework that night.
Naturally she forgave me two days later.
"What's the damn song?" She asks Sage.
"Oh, you're going to love it." Sage giggles. Yep, definitely too much wine there.
"Just tell me already and put me out of my misery." Daisy is sulking like a five year old, she is adorable.
"Lucky by Colbie Calliat." Sage tells her. Logan opens his eyes wide. Yeah me too, only that is a song about being in love with your best friend. Everyone knows that and Daisy looks like she is about to combust.
"I. Am. Not. Singing. That." She folds her arms in front of her chest.
"Too late." Sage smirks and holds her glass for Logan to refill it for her from the bottle of wine.
"Don't be such a party pooper, Daisy. Honestly, it's just a song. Girl, get up there and show them what for." Lottie cajoles her. Nope, not even her best friend is able to make Daisy smile, her face reddens. Oh yeah, damn cute.
Eliza clearly has never heard of the song because she looks confused, and has no idea why it's not such a good idea. I chuckle. Daisy gives me another looks can kill glare. It makes me chuckle even more.
"And the first couple are up." Announces Andy the guy who regularly runs the karaoke here at Lazy Duke's. "Let's give a hand for Marshal Deacon and Daisy." Everyone starts clapping and whistling.
"I'm game, c'mon sulky pants let's get up there. The sooner we sing it the sooner it'll be over."
"Fine." She stomps off and it's all I can do to stop myself from putting her over my shoulder and carrying her right out of the bar and taking her back home to my cabin. This girl is going to be the death of me yet.
