Daisy
My oh my, how in this town everybody is always a meddling, I recall just how we all behaved when Sage came back home and we tried endlessly to meddle in her affairs with Logan.
"Hey, don't worry too much about Barbara, I know we have some ways to go. Besides, have you seen how Lottie and Ryle have been all weekend, those two are on fire?" I giggle, honestly I have never seen my bestie so taken with a man, she messaged me this morning to let me know that Ryle is taking her on a proper date. Which of course got me to thinking.
"They are going on a date." I tell him, he raises his eyebrows then cocks his head, and gives me that panty melting smile.
"Would you like to go on a proper date with me, Buttercup. Only, I think it would be about time don't you think?" Fantastic, he is on the right track, I never thought he'd ask.
"Absolutely, I'd love it. Where will you take me?" I kind of fancy the new Italian restaurant further down on Main Street, I know it's a bit pricey but I like a fancy meal every now and then.
"It will be a surprise. How about I swing round to your place tonight say sevenish, does that give you enough time to lock up the shop and get ready?"
"Yes, plenty of time. I can't wait." I am literally almost bouncing up and down on the chair. He chuckles, his dimple comes to greet me and makes me swoon. Could Deacon possibly be any more handsome than he is right now? His eyes are dancing and lit up, his smile is broad and it looks as if he hasn't shaved for a few days with that alluring bit of scruff on his jawline. How can anyone be this good looking? No wonder all the girls used to be after him in school.
"Wear something warm." He tells me. Wait, what? Warm? I was hoping for a fancy Italian meal.
"Intriguing."
"I think you'll find it very romantic, Buttercup. My lips are sealed just make sure to be wrapped up."
"Okay." I breathe the words, it still hasn't really sunk in how I am finally with Deacon, well you know kind of with Deacon. So far it's been unbridled, hot sex with a lot of dirty words and actions, that are enough to make a girl blush and now we're here having a coffee together and talking about a date. Little me, and Marshal Deacon. A few girls on the other table turn their heads and look at Deacon then turn back to each other and giggle. I know they like the look of him and it makes me buzz knowing that it is me he has chosen.
"You fancy going to a movie mid-week?" He asks. Oo, a second date. This is a good sign and I am might glad that he hasn't brought up the age gap thing, honestly that wearing thin for me at one point. We chatted about it over the weekend away and finally he seemed to relax about it. Having Logan's blessing too means so much to me, I am so relieved to have a brother who is going all caveman on me about who I do or do not see.
"Sure, I'd love that. What will we see? There is a new Reeves movie out."
"I thought you'd like to see the original Casablanca movie, I hear they're showing it again this week but if you prefer a new movie then I am up for that too. He's a brilliant actor, you can't go wrong with one of his movies."
"Casablanca, why Deacon you romantic you. I'd love to see it at the movies, it is one of my favorites. How did you know?"
"I have paid attention Daisy, I also know that you love a good Hallmark movie, that Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts are your favorite actresses and that you fancied the pants off Brad Pitt." His smile is infectious.
"You have been paying attention."
"I also happen to know your favorite author is Tolstoy for classics and that you read an awful lot of smut books."
I blush. "Did you read my books?"
"Not all of them no, but I made a point of reading some of them that I'd seen laying around at your folk's house when you were growing up and I was there for Logan."
My heart flutters, well I never. Deacon reading girlie books, romance books, it's enough to make a girl swoon right off her seat and kiss his feet. "That is sooo romantic, Deacon."
"Told you, Buttercup, I have always liked you. Never thought you'd be interested in me but I had an inkling you did growing up. I honestly thought it was a teenage phase you'd grow out of. Mighty glad it wasn't."
"Me too, I mean that I never grew out of it." Gosh, why am I stumbling over my own words? He does things to me that are out of this world, just looking at him is making me squeeze my thighs together.
His phone vibrates on the table, Deacon gives it a quick glance. "Sorry, Daisy I have to run. There is an incident on Roosevelt Street. I may be tied up for a while but I will most definitely be at yours around seven this evening. So sorry to have to run on you, the nature of the job I'm afraid."
"Don't be sorry, Deacon I can't wait to see you this evening." He grabs his hat, leaves some money on the table to cover the coffees and makes a dash for the door.
"So you two, eh." Barbara comes over. "Didn't want to disturb you two love birds. Have to say, Daisy am I glad to see you two being a lot closer."
"Yeah, me too." My heart is still racing from being so close to him, feeling the heat off his thigh close to mine as we sat together. I cannot wait to have our first proper date tonight. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself and I know it'll be a quick afternoon.
"I hope it works out just how you want it to, Daisy, I am so happy for you both."
"Thank you, Barbara that means a lot to me. I have a little feeling that it just might." I smile and finish my coffee as she goes off to tend to some folk who have just come in. Honestly, I am so over moon I could literally hug myself. Tonight cannot come fast enough. First though, I need to finish my coffee then head over to the lingerie store and buy myself something fancy and sexy for our first proper date.
