Daisy
"Well would you look at that mighty fine ass on the Marshal." My best friend, Lottie says as I nearly choke on my cappuccino as we sit in Bluebell's diner.
"Lottie." I hiss. "He can hear you, and you shouldn't be saying things like that about the damn marshal."
"Listen girl, you think it and I say it. Simple facts. Don't tell me you haven't been checking his ass out like ninety times a day." She chuckles. Oh. My. God. Lottie is a scream.
"No, I haven't actually."
"Well, girl let me tell you, you're more dumb than a rabbit in the headlights. That fine ass is meant to be looked at. I'd have that under me in a heartbeat."
"Lottie, stop. He's only at the counter, he can hear every word you say."
"Well it's about time you and he got it together." She says and winks at me and drinks from her cup of green tea. I personally need caffeine, I'm a bit addicted to the stuff and since I get up so early, five a.m to do my morning yoga on the deck then go meet Logan and pick up Hector his gorgeous Airedale Terrier, to take him to my seamstress shop, it's a pretty full on morning and I do like a coffee to zing me through my morning. Okay, so I like it in the afternoon and early evening too. Oh yeah, and also after a meal in the evening when I'm at a restaurant. Sleep, well that comes way too easy for me because I also don't go to bed too early. I like to stay up until gone ten at night reading. So when my head hits that pillow, I am out like a light.
"We are never going to get it together, you know Deacon and I are just good friends. Always have been and always will be. Ever since we were kiddies in the sand pit."
"Oh please, Daisy. The way that man looks at you, seriously? It's written all over his face how much he'd like it to be more than friends."
"Yeah, well that as it may be unless he asks me I ain't gonna do nothing about it." I retort and fold my arms in front of my small chest. Unlike, Lottie I was not blessed with a great set of boobs, sure they're fine but there's just not an awful lot of them. I toss my long, blonde hair over my shoulder to give her that look that means, we are not discussing this right now.
"Just saying." She says getting the last word in, which makes me chuckle because my bestie always has to get the last word in. Lottie and I have known each other since we were around seven when her family moved to Willowbrook.
At first she was so shy so I kind of took her under my wing and offered her to sit with me during lunch. I shared my strawberry milk with her, offered her some of my pineapple chunks and a bond was formed from then. We were literally inseparable growing up.
Her bouncy waves hand around her shoulders and sometimes I am so envious of her ebony hair with its high sheen and gloss, although Lottie does tell me that it takes a lot of effort and products to get it to look the way it does. Her caramel skin is soft and glowing and she's inherited her coloring from her Mexican mother and her part Irish father. With high cheekbones, I'd die for and some models no doubt, it's fair to say that Lottie is a stunner.
"Well, stop just saying and tone it down a bit." And with that she finishes her coffee.
"How's the stall going for the fundraiser?" She asks. I'm setting up a crafting stall for the event which is taking place in a couple of weeks time. It's in aid of raising funds for the local baseball team and Logan, my elder brother who runs the doctor's practice here in Willowbrook started the fundraiser several years ago. He's invested in the future of our kids and liked the idea of giving them a place to play ball, be safe and meet other kids. It really took off in our community.
"It's going. I've got some new ideas I want to plan a little more and make some cute things up like bunting, pillows, stuffed toys, you know that kind of thing."
"Sounds perfect. I'm around if you want me to keep you company at the stall on the day. I hear Logan's playing with the band, that'll be awesome. He sure can play a mean guitar that brother of yours."
"Yeah, they're playing. I can't wait. Sage may get up and do a song with them." That's Logan's fiancée, they were together before she left him for Michigan State and some fancy medical career but ended up returning not too long ago and well, they're back together again after ten years apart. It's romantic and makes me swoon when I think about how they got their second chance. In fact, I've never seen my older brother so happy. It's the best.
"Wow, that girl has an amazing voice. It's been a while since we heard her sing, right?"
"Sure has, since we were kids ourselves. I think we were seventeen or something." I say and Lottie nods her head. God, where has the time gone, I'm now twenty-seven. I try not to think how badly I want a man in my life to be my forever man, some kids and to be settled. It'll happen for sure one day but to be honest, I do have a thing for Marshal Deacon and no man has come close to him, so I'm kind of stuck to be honest.
Sure, I fantasize that Deacon will one day just come on right out with it that he wants to take me on a date but maybe like me, he's too worried to ruin an amazing friendship and like with Lottie, I've known Deacon since I was a small kid. He's Logan's best friend and I bet he still sees me as Logan's kid sister.
"Afternoon, ladies." He says. I blush. Oh for goodness sake, I hate it when I act like a hormonal teenager around him. I feel embarrassed.
"Hey there, Deac." I say and smile. He smiles back. I love the way his eyes crease and his blue eyes shine. A girl get well and truly lost in those eyes, I'm telling you know. Girls hang on to your hats because this man has the potential to sweep you right off your feet given half the chance. I just wish he was sweeping me off mine.
Thank you for reading chapter 1. The updates will be x3 a week due to other writing commitments and working full time. I hope you like the start of Cuffing The Law. I love Lottie, she sounds like a really fun person. Can't wait to see what happens with the marshal and Daisy, though xoxo
