Daisy

The evening in the tree house was more than perfection, the way Deacon made love to me and made me feel like I was the only woman in the universe, still leaves me swooning. We kept telling each other how much we loved one another and played the game of secrets, you know the one. You tell me yours and I will tell you mine. It turns out that Deacon has very few secrets although he did have a massive crush on Shania Twain and loves 90s music, adorable, right? I don't have any secrets, growing up pretty much together, Deacon already knows just about everything there is to know about me. I did, however, divulge that I write in my journal most evenings and that I love to read the journal from my grandma. He thought that was a special thing to have and to do.

We held hands and laid and talked for what seemed hours, we explored each other's bodies, savoring each precious moment like it would be our last ones and when I fell asleep the best thing ever, was waking right up beside him the following morning, his body spooned against mine, his protective, strong arm folded over me and holding onto my stomach. Bliss, such bliss. My idea of heaven.

It's been a few days since we were at the tree house and today is the day of our fall fundraising event for the kids. I've got all my crafts ready and Sadie is on the stall next to me, her hair today has gone from her shocking pink to a muted kind of purple color, you know like those tiny violet sweets you can get from the old fashioned candy store. It suits her and on her lips she is wearing the pretties shade of pink lipstick, I need to remember to ask her where she got it because I sure do fancy me some.

"All set?" My mother asks me as she swings by laden down with some divine looking cakes.

"Yes, all set." I'm so excited for the grand opening, our very own mayor Hank Rindell is opening up and his wife, the adorable Betsie is cutting the ribbon, it's tradition and the whole townsfolk look forward to it. Deacon is not, however, looking forward to being dunked time and time again by the kids, and I know for sure that Logan will be throwing the balls to help the kids too, so Deacon is going to look like a drowned animal by the end of the day. But hell, he doesn't mind too much, we all know today is about the kids and every cent we make goes into the coffers for the baseball ground, the kit they wear, the stadium, the kids and those who can't really afford to play. Logan, who I think I've mentioned before set all of this up some years ago and my folks and I are really proud of him.

"These bags look beautiful, when did you have time to make all of this stuff?" Mom asks as she sets the cakes down on my stall and has a turquoise, beaded bag in her hands, it has a long strap and would easily fit a mobile, set of keys and a couple of other small items.

"Just around doing the bigger stuff, Mom and sometimes in the evenings. I also had a bit of stock left over that didn't sell over the Christmas holidays and brought those out too." Sadie hands me a nice steaming hot chocolate with plenty of whipped cream on top. "Thanks, Sadie."

"Sure, no problem. I love that bag your mom has in her hands, I'd like first dibs on that please."

"Absolutely. My first sale of the day and I have my eye on your knitted scar and hat set, the one with the white fur pompom on top."

She grins. "It's got your name on it, Daisy. It'll look adorable on, let me take it off display."

There is a slight crackling and buzzing you know that sound when someone is trying to get the sound system to work. I am guessing our major has arrived to Main Street with Bessie. "Good morning good folk of Willowbrook and welcome to tour fifth annual fundraiser for the Baseball ground, started as most of you will all know by our very own Doctor Logan. Please let's give Logan a huge clap of hands and welcome him to the stage."

My heart swells for my brother. Deacon comes round the corner and stands beside me, running an arm around my waist and plants a gentle kiss to my cheek. He smells woodsy and slightly of cinnamon, mm I could inhale him all day long. "I brought you your favorite blueberry muffin from Bluebell's."

"Thank you, you're such a sweetheart." I give him a kiss and wait for Logan to go up on the stage that has been erected for today. We have all had a hand in decorating it. The iron pagoda has come out and is draped with fall vines and pumpkins sit at the foot of the stage with a pumpkin each side of the steps leading to the main area. Logan strides up the four steps and gives everyone crowded around a wave.

"Good morning everyone, firstly thank you all so much for coming out to support us today, it means so much to us that you come and support us year after year. I can't believe we are already into our fifth year and looking forward to many more years. All your efforts and hard work into making this event happen on an annual basis means so much to all of us and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Now let's get this event opened and on the road." He gives everyone another wave as they clap, whistle and cheer. I swear I've gone all emotional with some tears prickling at my eyes. Deacon hands me a handkerchief, how sweet, I mean who carries these anymore these days? I take it and dab my eye like something out of an 1800's scene.

"I'll catch up with you two lovebirds later," my mom says as she picks up her cakes and heads a few stall down where my dad is waiting for her now that he has set the table up, placed the orange tablecloth over the trestle table and a brown small one on top. It looks so fall-ish.

We went all out this year for Main Street since the mayor gave us a little bit extra funding, the whole street is decorated with lanterns hanging from the trees, lampshades are decorated with fall bunting and foliage. It's so pretty like living on a Hallmark set. I sigh with contentment, I live in the best place in the entire country, I swear I will never leave Willowbrook.

Yeah, I did have designs on heading to Paris to study fashion and close my shop up and spend a year or two over there, but you know here is where my heart is right with Deacon, with my family and my friends. Why would I want to go anywhere else? Besides, I can always go there on a holiday with Deacon some day. That'd be funny though, to see Deacon outside of Willowbrook, I'm not sure he's ever left the State. I grin and chuckle.

"What are you giggling at like a High schooler?" He asks me.

"Oh, nothing. Nothing at all. But I have made a decision."

"You have? Care to share it, Buttercup?"

"I have decided that I'm not going to Paris after all to study and be away for a year or two. I'm so happy here Deacon that I don't need Paris. Everything I want right now is here beside me. Everyone, you, my folks, Lottie, Sage, Logan." I hug myself.

"Are you sure, Daisy? It's a big decision and a three-hundred-and-sixty degree turnaround. You had your heart set on Paris."

"That was before I realized how much in love with you I am, Deacon and you are with me, that was when I thought I needed the adventure the change of scenery but now I have all the scenery I want every time I look into your eyes."

He grins from ear to ear, lowers his head down and kisses me so tenderly that it literally takes my breath away.

"I don't want to stop you," he says when we finish, and I try to catch my breath. "Your dreams are important, Buttercup don't let anyone ever stand in the way of them. Not me, not Logan, not Lottie nobody. You need to do what is absolutely right for you. We're strong, Buttercup, even if you decided to go to Paris, I'd be waiting right here for you with a warm bed and Bonnie who by the way I'd take care of."

"You'd take care of Bonnie?" Now I am melting in front of him.

"Of course, I love that little Satan cat of yours." He makes me giggle, okay so Bonnie can be a bit satanish with Deacon but not often and only when she gets kicked out of the bedroom when he wants to be amorous with me. It's kinda funny and adorable.

"You are my dream, Deacon I knew it from the time I was fifteen, hell I knew it before then but I hadn't figured it out until I was a bit older. Nothing more to be said, I want to be by your side every day. Besides, we can fly there on a holiday or something sometime."

"If you say so, Buttercup. You really do hang the moon, Daisy. I promise never to let you down, I promise to always protect you and Bonnie, I promise to be the man you want and need in your life." Okay so right now I am that puddle at the bottom of his size ten boots.
