Solitude means to be alone with oneself.

Fugo knows all too well what best if he were to be left with another soul. It takes clashes to recognize a mind different from his own. What peace would it be if anger is flaming inside of him. The scent of black coffee under his nose is nauseating.

To be alone does not mean loneliness. Once in a while the moon would rest behind the curtain of clouds.

He would never envy. A great mind like his understands that he was one born with no fortune. For people to be jealous of him or admiring his body, for what it's worth, was never a big deal. He too, could labour boiling seas within him. So he could justify and be right.

"Are you, perhaps, angry?"

It wasn't the most conventional thing to say to someone you just met but it's what he heard. An absolute clownery.

She smelled like lemon. Hint of sugar.

Fugo knows he wasn't angry. There was no reason for him to lashes out at her. She was okay just because Bucciarati said so.

So he answered, "I'm not angry."

Based on her face, Fugo knows she doesn't understand. Which Fugo also doesn't want to understand. To understand her was in no list of his tasks. Such differences between them.

"But leave me alone if you don't need anything." And so he added.

Strange things occur, this one is another mess. Fugo has been robbed of his solitude with her constant presence.

"Why are you sad?" She'd ask whenever he's angry.

There must be something wrong with this girl, he thought. Her eyes are like a dazzling summer and she loves sweet lemonade.

"I'm not sad." He didn't think he could yell at her. Be it because she's innocent or purely stupid.

"If you said so,'' she'd say, her face then lightens up a bit when their eyes meet. "If I made strawberry lemonade, would you finally join my picnic?"

"Okay."

The smile on her face is full of delight. She has won the efforts. She reads him like beautiful poetry.

Solitude means to be alone with oneself.

Fugo knows it should be okay if she understand him. And that's why he won't refuse the solitude to be with her.
