The weather was somewhat humid, the sky dark, and the wind blows strong. It was a normal day in October in the city of Naples with all the signs of rain that will be pouring soon. Even so, Pannacotta Fugo still roams around without an umbrella. He was patrolling alone, separated from his gang to be specific.
The restaurant where they usually stay was still far. Fugo lightly cursed under his breath while making his way back. There's no way he could make it before raining. It doesn't take too long until the rain dripping on him. Before suddenly blasting heavily.
Fugo ran towards the nearest cafe he can find. It was packed. People were there to shelter from the rain just like him. And it was lucky for him to get the last empty table available. With a cup of black coffee, he waited.
Then it was she who drew his attention away from outside the window. She was almost completely soaked by the rain. In the dimmed cafe, her eyes shine the brightest. She wants to know if she can sit on the same table with Fugo. When Fugo examined, the only empty seat was in front of him. He let her sit down with him.
She was kind, soft-spoken, overall charming. It's like she's the most fragile person ever existed. And her name.
Talking to her was surprisingly and pleasingly fun. She was a university student in a political science major. People like her with a calm attitude and open mind was something Fugo appreciated. The debate they had that day was refreshing. Something Fugo needed rather than just reading or teaching math. No one in the gang could engage such a conversation with him.
A few days after the first encounter in the cafe, Fugo met her again. This time on the side of the street by a tailor. She said she was just ordering a custom suit. Her major requiring the students to wear suits most of the time. Fugo who just being happy to see her again offered a cup of coffee. Which thankfully, she accepted.
Since that day, they would meet in the cafe where they first met. Not too often, since they were both busy. Just enough to know about each other closer. Just fine so that they could criticize the government together. Fugo may have or not have taken a liking to her by the time.
On their umpteenth meeting, Fugo heard something unbearable. Enough to make his chest burn, more than enough to make him flip a table. She was sobbing in front of him while telling him how her family threats against her were getting harsher. While trembling and drowning in tears, she also told Fugo how her boyfriend only come at night to sleep and left early in the morning. She and her boyfriend rarely talk or having time together.
Fugo can't believe how someone as delicate as she had to go through those horrible things. If he can, Fugo wants to punch her family right on the face with his hand. More importantly, he wants to beat the heck out of that boyfriend with Purple Haze.
The rest of that day, Fugo can only hold her hand. Never in his life, he wanted to hug someone so bad. And how he wants her for him alone. Fugo knows he deserves to be the boyfriend. Not a jerk or whoever it is.
The rain has been pouring heavily since early in the morning. Today is the end of September, still the wet season. Even so, Fugo had to patrol again around the city. Alone because he's tired with Narancia and Mista nonsense. This time with a maroon umbrella on his hand.
He didn't mean to come to the area where he usually meets her, yet there he is. It's been a while since he last met her. Fugo dead to know how she's doing right now. She left that day with a smile, but Fugo didn't know how she is after that.
The streets were fairly empty thanks to the rain. No one stupid enough to walk outside in the rain if not for any urgent business they had. Judging the situation is good enough, he decided to go back to the team.
He was passing a flower shop and sees hibiscus flowers from the window. Without he realizes it, he was smiling. Thinking maybe he could give her flowers when they meet again. Hibiscus would be perfect since the meaning suits her well. He left when he decided roses are what will he give next time. No other meaning. He just wants to show her his gratitude. As a friend.
Then, he sees someone running towards him with face lowers that he can't see it. The person eventually bumped into him.
"Oh, no, I'm sorry," she said weakly. Fugo recognized the voice and the hair. His eyes widen in surprise.
"[y/n]?" In the gloomy dark weather, her eyes shine the brightest. When she looked up to him with those eyes, Fugo becomes weak. He hates how he let the tears filled her eyes again.
"Fugo!" she exclaimed. Relieve can be heard in her tone.
"What happened?" Fugo pulled her in, lowering the umbrella. Her face is a whole mess. Eyebags under the eyes, swollen lips, bruise on the left cheek.
"Help me," she pleaded, the tears still falling just like the rain. "I'm scared of him. He won't let me go. What should I do, Fugo?"
Fugo was about to answer when someone shouts for her name. He lifted the umbrella a little. Only to find a man, an ugly one at that, glaring at Fugo and her.
She squealed in fear. Fugo had his one arm wrapping around her while returning the gaze.
"Who the fuck is that, [y/n]? Did you cheat on me?" The man snarled, louder than the rain. He's drenched from head to toe.
"I believe she has no business with you anymore," Fugo replied, as calm as he can. His teeth are already gritting.
"I'm not talking to you! [y/n] answer me!"
"Do you want to say anything to him?"
She shook her head desperately. It was enough answer for Fugo to continue getting rid of him.
"Will you hold the umbrella, [y/n]? Thank you." Fugo stepped out of the umbrella to confront the man. "I warn you. Don't show yourself in front of her again. You mean nothing to her now. Get lost."
"Do you think I'm scared?" The man laughed. "You fucker, she's my girlfriend!" He leaned forward, running to land a punch on Fugo.
Fugo gets on the stance, the martial art he learned from Abbacchio finally come handy. He swiftly dodged the man, then punching him before finally kicking him right on his jaw. Making the man dragged away far to the back. "I warn you," Fugo growled, "Don't get near her ever again. She's mine, bastard!" His voice's soaring through the air then quickly disappear, replaced by the rain. There's no answer from the man as he fainted from the hit he took.
"Fugo!" Fugo turned around, she had run towards him. Hugging him like there's no tomorrow. The umbrella had been abandoned. "Thank you," she cried, "I don't know what to say anymore. Just.., thank you."
It was enough as an answer for Fugo to smile. He wrapped his hands around her with no plan to let go soon. He's content of what he has at the moment.
