with you i'd dance, in a storm in my best dress.
"Aundrea Scott and Conner Lewis," The senior class president announced, causing the students to applaud.
"Well that wasn't unexpected" Jacey stated with the shrug of her shoulders. "Can we go?" She asked Tyler and his face almost lit up.
"I've been waiting for you to say that since we got here." It was pushing eleven and for him the night was dragging on in the worst way. Sure, he danced with her, watched her dance with her friends, but when it all boiled down to it, sometimes he could be socially awkward (especially around people that weren't his age).
"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked as they headed back over to the table, they had been occupying all night with Abby and Danny, as the song the king and queen would be dancing to played.
"I didn't want to ruin your night, beautiful. You looked like you were having so much fun." She smiled at his reply. Never had she had someone like him in her life. She cherished him and all his kind words and compliments. He treated her with respect, and in her mind, that was one of the only things she needed from him.
"You're so sweet." She picked up her clutch and took out her cell phone. She sent Abby a text letting her know that she and Tyler were leaving and to enjoy the rest of her night. Tyler grabbed his jacket and smoothly slid into it.
"You ready?" Tyler asked and she nodded her head. He took her hand and they began to walk from the establishment. As they got closer and closer to the door she could feel a pair of eyes burning through her. She looked around and noticed who's eyes they were. Conner. She rolled her eyes at him with a smirk on her face and continued on with her business. She didn't understand why he was suddenly all into her, and to be honest, she didn't care.
They walked though halls and through the lobby of the hotel in which prom was being held. It didn't take long for them to reach the doors leading outdoors. She halted in her tracks, losing her grip on Tyler's hand, when she noticed the rain falling. He raised an eyebrow at her as he stood in the rain. "What's wrong? Scared you're gonna melt?" He laughed, grabbed her hand, and pulled her out of the door all in one quick motion without allowing her to answer. She shrieked and giggled as he pulled her into him, planting a kiss on her lips. "See, look at that. You aren't melting."
She bit her bottom lip and looked him in eyes. His beautiful, green eyes. "Not yet anyway." This was the most she had ever been kissed or held close by a boyfriend. She wasn't complaining, but she was shocked. It seemed like that year of them not being able to made everything about being able to that much better. A smile appeared on her face which triggered his.
"So, race you back to the car?" He asked her, letting her go, yet they were still standing close.
"K. But you're going to lose," She told him as she started to take her heels off.
"Oh, is that right?" He asked before he began to run towards the car.
"Hey! That's not even fair!" she screamed after him before she, too, started running. She laughed as she ran as fast as she could, almost catching up to him right before she reached his car.
"I win" He said as he opened the driver said door. He put the key in the ignition and started the car. He looked at his iPod when he noticed that music started to play. It wasn't abnormal for him to leave his iPod on while he left his car. He was surprised it hadn't died yet. "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars faded into "Its Your Love" by Tim McGraw featuring Faith Hill. He turned the volume up and partially closed the door so that rain wouldn't ruin the door panel. "May I have this dance?" He asked once he found himself in front of her.
