we've got nothing figured out.
Tyler pulled the car into the driveway and placed the gearshift in the park. "I'll get the food, and you get him out," Tyler suggested while looking at Jacey. Jacey nodded and handed him the drink holder. Tyler handed Jimmy his Happy Meal box, then grabbed the bag that contained his and Jacey's food. Once everyone was out of the car and all doors were closed, Tyler set the car alarm. He walked to the door, listening to Jimmy's feet hit the ground as he took nonrhythmic steps. Tyler looked at the door closely as he approached it and noticed it wasn't closed properly. "Those dumb cops didn't close my door," he griped.
"That sucks," Jacey muttered, stating the obvious. Tyler pushed the door open and walked cautiously into his house. He went into the kitchen and sat the food down.
"I'm going to check the place out," he told Jacey as he began toward the stairs. He went through the house, making sure everything was fine and no one had entered it. He walked down the stairs. Once he reached the landing, he saw Jacey and Jimmy standing in the foyer. "You could've come in," Tyler said to Jacey as he walked closer to her.
"If Mr. Robber Man or Killer Dude was in here waiting for us, I wanted to be somewhere with an easy escape," Jacey explained. Tyler shook his head and let out a small chuckle.
"No one is here. You can stop being silly," he taunted as he closed the door and tried to lock it. "They broke the lock!" Tyler exclaimed.
"That sucks," Jacey repeated, in the same tone of voice.
"You said that already," Tyler began. "Besides, now you need to worry about robber dude and killer man," he added.
"It's robber man and killer dude," Jacey corrected. Tyler ignored her sarcasm and began moving the loveseat. "What are you doing?"
"Moving the loveseat," he replied while pushing the piece of furniture. Jimmy watched Tyler and then jumped onto the loveseat.
"Faster, FASTER!" He exclaimed. Jacey giggled as she stood by and watched. Tyler maneuvered the loveseat in front of the door. "Again," Jimmy suggested.
"Not tonight; you need to eat and get to bed," Tyler explained.
"Again?" Jimmy asked Jacey in a pleading manner as he completely ignored Tyler.
"Maybe tomorrow," Jacey stated.
"Okay!" Jimmy replied, getting off of the loveseat.
They ate in silence. None of them realized how hungry they were until they began to eat, at which point all conversation stopped.
"Thank you," Jimmy said once he was done.
"You're welcome," Jacey replied.
"I believe he was speaking to me since I bought it and all," Tyler interjected.
"He doesn't like you, remember, so why would he speak to you," Jacey retorted, hitting one of Tyler's soft spots. He couldn't stand the thought of his own son not liking him, but he didn't know how to be a father. He wanted to play and joke with Jimmy like he did with Kaylee. In his mind, parents weren't supposed to be their kid's best friend. They were supposed to set rules and stick to them, or at least that's how he was brought up and how he expected to raise his own children.
