the stakes are high.
Jacey wrapped a towel around her body before exiting the bathroom. She dried off and dressed herself in a pair of Tyler's shorts and one of her t-shirts. She used the towel to wring out her hair, before brushing it and putting it up. She glanced at the clock and sighed. "Tyler's not going to let me keep it up," she thought, then took her hair down. Shortly after, she heard the alarm beep due to the front door opening. 'Five, four,' she began counting down in her head. She could hear Jimmy's little feet as he ran up the stairs. 'One!' Jimmy came crashing through the door, smiling.
"JACEYY!" Jacey was sitting on the bed when Jimmy tackled her, giving her a huge hug. Even though Jimmy saw Jacey every day after school, he was still always excited to see her and which made Jacey happy. Jacey hugged him back, before tickling him. Jimmy laughed loudly causing Jacey to laugh also.
"What's going on in here?" Tyler asked as he walked into the bedroom.
"Tickle fight," Jimmy answered, giggling. Jacey looked up at Tyler, whose facial expression was less than pleased.
"What's wrong, Ty?" She questioned, getting up from where she sat on the bed. Jimmy stayed on the bed, catching his breath. Tyler sat his messenger bag on the dresser.
"Read this." Tyler handed Jacey an envelope with a sigh.
"What is it?"
"Just read it," Tyler told her with a hint of aggravation in his voice. Jacey took the letter out of the opened envelope and unfolded it.
"It's the results," Jacey stated after reading the heading. Tyler turned his back to her, before lowering his head and running his fingers through his hair. 'This can't be good,' Jacey thought as she began to read. A few short moments later, Jacey hit Tyler with the letter, causing him to laugh. "You butthead, that wasn't funny!" Tyler turned, then wrapped his arms around Jacey in one swift motion. "You had me thinking Steven wasn't Jimmy's father," she complained as Tyler smiled. He kissed her excitedly, before letting her go.
"Sorry, love, it was too easy. I couldn't let the opportunity slip," he told her, and she hit him again.
"You're still a butthead," she declared.
"I got her good!" Tyler told Jimmy, giving him a high five as he giggled. "We need to go to your mom's."
"I don't know if Steven is there. I should call," Jacey said, pulling out her phone.
"No, it's fine. I'll wait there for him if I have to." Jacey let out a small laugh at Tyler's desperate excitement. She was happy that he and Jimmy had become close. Officially adopting Jimmy has been Tyler's main priority for a while, and Jacey was glad to see everything working out. Jacey was lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice Jimmy leave the room or Tyler as he collected papers from his messenger bag and add them into a folder he grabbed from his nightstand drawer. "Come on, let's go!" He said smiling. He was standing in front of her now, and she could see the happiness in his eyes. He kissed her one last time before taking her hand. They walked out of the room and saw Jimmy as he walked out of his room. He ran up to them and took Jacey's hand.
Tyler was at a red light on the way to Jacey's house. Jacey's palm rested in Tyler's, with her fingers intertwined with his. He loved this. They were happy together, and he was excited to have Jimmy as a part of their happiness. 'I didn't want him when I thought he was mine; now I'm doing everything to make him mine,' Tyler thought, causing him to smile.
