don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground.
Sunday morning.
"I told you to dress simple, Jacey," Tyler said, a bit frustrated as Jacey fought with her shoe buckle.
"I did! I'm wearing a dress and flip-flops," she explained.
"I'm not a fashion expert, but I don't think flip-flops have buckles. Let's not forget your headband and jewelry." Jacey rolled her eyes.
"I just wanted to look nice for you," she exclaimed with a pout. He put both hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes.
"You're always beautiful, babe," he assured her with a smile. Tyler picked up both carry-on bags, and they began to walk toward the terminal as Jacey finished fixing her hair.
"Do we have time?" Jacey asked.
"No," Tyler retorted bluntly.
"I want to go to the restroom," she explained.
"Jacey, we're late. Your hair is fine," he told her, assuming that was what she was heading to the bathroom to do.
"I have to pee," she whined as if she was a toddler.
"You can pee on the plane."
"I am NOT peeing on a plane," she objected with a funny look on her face. Tyler sighed as they turned and began toward the restroom.
"Why didn't you do this before we left?" he asked, slightly shaking his head.
"I didn't have to," she explained. Tyler was less than pleased by the elementary response. Tyler stood outside of the restroom, waiting for Jacey to finish. He sat one of the bags down and checked his watch. They had less than ten minutes to get to the terminal. 'Hurry up, Jacey,' he thought.
"Last call for 258 to Los Angeles," a lady's voice announced over the intercom. Tyler became slightly antsy at the thought of them missing the flight. He opened the door to the women's room slightly.
"Jacey, we're going to miss our flight," he called, then let the door close. Shortly after Jacey came out of the restroom.
"You did not do that," Jacey stated as she walked out. Tyler grabbed the other bag.
"We have to go! They just announced the last call for our flight," he explained, then began rushing toward the terminal. They scurried to the terminal. Tyler sat one bag down and pulled the tickets out of his blazer pocket. He decided to look semiprofessional since it was partly a business trip. After the tickets were scanned, he picked up the bag, and began to board the plane.
"Tyler," Jacey called softly. He turned around to see her still standing by the check-in.
"Come on," he motioned for her to come the best he could with a bag in his hand.
"I'm scared," she shyly admitted. "I've never flown before." He didn't take his eyes off her as he walked back toward her and put both bags down.
"You will be fine. I'm here with you. Everything will be okay, love. I won't let you go," he assured her, then kissed her lips softly. She smiled and blushed a bit, noticing their small audience. He put both bags into one hand and took her hand with the other. Jacey was hesitant at first, "I got you," Tyler told her, and she slowly walked with him leading her. He found their seats and put their bags in the overhead compartments. "You want the window or aisle seat?" He asked her.
"Aisle, please," she requested, not wanting to be able to see out of the window. He took his seat and put the shade down to cover the window for her. She sat next to him nervously. He placed one hand on her cheek and kissed her once more.
"Everything is going to be fine." She nodded her head, and a small smile appeared on her face. "Look on the bright side. Your first plane ride is first class," he told her with a smirk.
"I'm afraid we're going to crash or something," she admitted, working herself up.
"Hey, hey look," he said, trying to calm her down. "This is the safest form of travel. Cars are far more dangerous than planes. There's a car accident every 14 seconds, and every 12 minutes, there's a fatality due to a car crash, whereas a plane crash is like 1 in 4 mil. So please don't worry, baby."
"Would you like a pillow," a flight attendant asked. Tyler looked at Jacey, who shook her head.
"No, thank you," Tyler answered politely.
"I'm Laura. I'll be checking on you periodically, but if you need anything, just stop me when you see me," she said with a smile and then moved to the next pair of seats.
"Here you go," Tyler said, handing Jacey a piece of gum. "And you should put these in," he said, handing her an extra pair of earbuds he had.
"I have mine," she told him, then took her iPhone out of her pocket and put in her earbuds. Tyler put in his earbuds and moved the armrest from between them. He put his arm around her, and she adjusted herself. She got as close to him as possible and laid her head on his shoulder. He kissed the top of her head and got ready for takeoff. He hoped she would be asleep before the plane took off, and her ears popped. Either way, he was happy they were getting away, even if only for a week.
