don't be afraid.
Tyler placed the mail on the island and continued to the fridge. "You want something out of here?" he asked Jacey.
"No," she replied simply as she noticed the fancy envelope with a huge 'P' on it. She picked up the envelope and looked at it. "You're getting mail from the Prescott's now?" Tyler looked at her for a moment before saying anything.
Tyler stared at the envelope. He knew this was it—the results. Nothing would change his heart from keeping Jimmy, but if Jimmy wasn't his things would get really complicated. Tyler got up from the cough and threw the envelope down. 'My name is on the birth certificate. That's all that matters,' he thought. He paced for a few minutes, then picked the envelope up. He also picked up the letter opener. He ripped the envelope open and pulled out the letter. He sat on the loveseat and frantically read. "16% chance of being the father," he read aloud.
"Daddy," Jimmy called as he came down the stairs. Tyler didn't answer. "Daddy," Jimmy called again.
"Yes son," Tyler answered this time.
"Are you going to cook dinner or buy dinner?" Jimmy asked.
"Why?"
"I really like the chicken you made, but if you are tired from your long day, you can just buy me some chicken nugkits," Jimmy suggested. Tyler laughed and gave Jimmy a hug.
"What's that?" Jimmy asked, pointing to the letter.
"Oh, nothing, just a stupid paper," Tyler told the child. Tyler spaced out for a moment, "Hey Jimmy, I'm a good father, huh? You like being here, don't you?"
"Yeah, Daddy, you're awesome. I love it here. You're not going to send me back, are you?"
"No, never I told you that," Tyler answered Jimmy's question quickly.
"Cool. Now you need to get out of the timeout, and Jacey can move back here, and she can be my new mommy, and we can be a family," Jimmy told his dad.
"Is that what you want?"
"Uh huh!" Jimmy grabbed Tyler's hand and started pulling him. "Now, let's get those chicken nugkits!"
"I didn't say I was buying chicken nuggets," Tyler stated as Jimmy continued to pull.
"But I said you are awesome," Jimmy exclaimed. Tyler laughed and got up.
"Okay, okay I'll get you chicken nuggets."
"Wait, you're not his father?" Jacey questioned.
"I am his father... just not biologically," Tyler explained. "I'm not sending him back. I can't."
"I'm not suggesting that, Tyler," Jacey defended her words. "So what's next?"
"Well, I'm looking for his biological father so he can give up his parental rights..."
"What if he doesn't?" Jacey interrupted.
"Oh, he will give them up," Tyler stated with his eyebrows raised. "Then I can legally adopt Jimmy and, after that, get custody of him."
"That sounds complicated," Jacey said.
"Not so much. Chloe doesn't have any rights to Jimmy, and the Prescotts are willing to do anything so that I won't sue them for falsely putting my name on the birth certificate. That's why they sent me a list of Chloe's old guy friends," Tyler continued explaining.
