ISAAK

"Uncle, you're back!" Sebas exclaimed, running over to me and hugging my legs. I laughed.

"We've been waiting for you to come back so you can read me a bedtime story," he said, his eyes sparkling. I smiled down at him.

"Okay, little man," I said. "Let's go on in and I'll tell you a story." I held out my hand, and Sebas took it, his little hand warm in mine. Diane stood back, a soft smile on her face. I couldn't help but feel like I was finally home.

"Once upon a time," I begin. "There was boy and a girl,"

"They were young when they first realized they loved each other. Just when things were getting good between the two, the guy had received a call that would change his vision for his future forever,"

"What was it?" Sebas asks.

"Years passed, and the guy never forgot about the girl. He was forced to do things he didn't want to do, but he knew it was for the sake of his family and the girl he fell in love with." I sighed. "He tried to find her in the faces of other women, but it was never the same. Whenever he had a moment to himself, he thought of her, wondering what she was doing, if she was happy. And then one day, by chance, they met again. But things were different. The years had changed them both. The guy still loved her more than anything, but he knew that wasn't enough.

"And she hurt him," I paused. "but he felt like he deserved it,"

"What did she do?" He asked. "She moved on," I say,  my eyes landing on Diane who hadn't taken her eyes off me. The words were bitter in my mouth.

"Like I said, he felt like he deserved it, because he was the one who left." I paused, taking a deep breath. "But what he didn't realize was that she never really moved on. She had just accepted that he wasn't coming back, that he had chosen his path and she had to choose hers." Sebas was completely enraptured by the story, his eyes wide with wonder.

"Did they ever see each other again?" he asked, his voice full of hope.

"Well, she found out something terrible, something that ruined any chance of them rekindling what they once had," I said, my voice heavy with emotion. "But she had already chosen a different path for herself. And..." I hesitated, unsure of how to continue.

"Even through all of that, she was the only woman who had ever truly held his heart, and no one else would ever come close." Sebas was silent, his face pensive as he took in my words. "That's... beautiful," he finally said, his voice soft.

"Do they end up together?" Sebas asked, his eyes hopeful. "That's a question for another day," I said, my lips curling into a smile. "Maybe if you close your eyes and imagine, you'll find out the answer." Sebas pouted, clearly not happy with my answer.

"That's not fair!" he exclaimed, his voice full of frustration. I couldn't help but laugh at his reaction. "Sorry, Sebas," I said, still smiling. "But maybe you can dream about it." Sebas huffed, but I could tell he was starting to enjoy the story.

Sebas had fallen fast asleep which meant that Diane and I were the only ones awake. I grabbed my blazer as I headed to the balcony.

The sky was dark, the stars twinkling above us like a blanket of diamonds. The night was quiet, the only sound the faint rustling of the leaves in the wind.

It was peaceful, serene, and I couldn't help but feel at home in the stillness.

As I popped a piece of gum into my mouth, Diane walked out onto the balcony, joining me in the moonlight

I glanced at Diane, who was looking up at the sky, lost in thought. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" I said, my voice a whisper. She turned to look at me, her eyes shining in the moonlight. "It really is," she said, her voice just as soft as mine.

Diane hugged herself, her shoulders hunched as she shivered in the night air. Without thinking, I took off my blazer and handed it to her. "Here," I said, my voice gentle.

"You'll catch a cold if you're not careful." She looked at me, evidently wanting to refuse so I just put it on her and she didn't say a word  and accepting her fate.

"What happened after you left with Sebas?" she asked, her voice soft. I turned to face her, looking into her eyes. "I'm not sure I can say," I said, a small smile on my lips. "Some stories are meant to be untold." I joke and Diane raised an eyebrow, clearly not satisfied with my answer. "You're being mysterious," she said, a hint of amusement in her voice.

I went ahead and told her everything. From the beginning to the very last bit. "What does Yulia have to do with it?"

"Yulia formed an alliance with then knowing that their my enemies, obviously she's doing it for revenge and she'll stop at nothing. I haven't heard from Viktor in  days and I'm sure that's not good,"

"The Zwanes want Sebas to be a part of them because of Xavier," I said, my voice hard. "But I won't let them take him away from me. Not after everything I've done to keep him safe." Diane nodded, seeming to understand me.

"But what about Sebas' mom?" she asked, her voice quiet. "Is she on your side?" I paused, considering my answer. "She is," I said, certainty in my voice. "She loves Sebas more than anything, and she knows he's safe with me."

I started to head back inside, ready to get comfortable in bed, when I saw Diane grabbing her clutch, getting ready to leave.

"I better get going," she said, her voice quiet. "It's late, and I should probably head to my room." I paused, not wanting her to leave.

"You don't have to," I said, my voice gentle. "You can stay the night, if you want." She hesitated, a conflicted expression on her face. "Isaak, I..." she trailed off, unsure of what to say.

"Just stay," I said, my voice firm but kind. She looked at me.

Suddenly,  she is in my arms. Giving me the biggest hug.

I inhale her scent, calming down instantly with her in my arms. It was like I had forgotten everything for a moment,  like nothing else seem to matter.
