It was early in the morning, and the sun was just beginning to shine through the window. Kel yawns, curling up under his sheets. The sun hit his eyes and he groans quietly, attempting to pull his covers up.
He opens his eyes slowly. Why can't he grab his blanket? His eyes widen upon seeing his hands. Or, what used to be his hands.
His hands were furry and cat-like. He sits up to look at the rest of himself. He was a cat.
He's a cat.
HE IS A FUCKING CAT.
A.
FUCKING.
CAT.
Kel sat very still for a while. He didn't know what to do.
Eventually, his brother woke up. He didn't even notice the cat on his brother's bed. He only left the room to do his own things.
Kel watched him. He sighs, was he stuck like this?
Kel jumps off of the bed. He runs out of the room and into the bathroom. Thankfully the door was slightly open. He hops up on the counter, stumbling a bit. He looks at himself.
Even as a cat, he still had his muscled build. He was a pretty big cat, with reddish brown fur, dark brown eyes, and an orange collar around his neck. That's probably what his clothes turned into. For some odd reason, the tip of his left ear was blunt. As if it had been cut.
He was distracted admiring himself, not noticing the door opening. He turns around, facing his tired looking mother. She gasps upon noticing him. She steps back with a yell.
"Henry! There's a cat in the bathroom!" She shouts. Kel's ears fold back. He'd forgotten about his mother's slight fear of cats. Hero rushes upstairs and past his mother.
He sighs and grabs Kel. "Don't worry mom, I'll take him outside." He mutters. Kel's eyes widen.
"Wait. No no no no no. Let me go! I don't want to go outside! I'm a cat! I could get eaten by a coyote!" His attempts at wriggling out of Hero's grip failed, and he was soon plopped down on the grass outside.
"Sorry little guy. I'd help find your owner, but I'm kind of busy. Sorry." Hero apologizes before closing the door.
"No! Hero please! It's me! Kel!" His shouts were futile. He sighs, his day couldn't get any worse.
A bark interrupts his thoughts. "Cat! Catcatcat!"
Kel turns to Hector. "Hector? Was that you?"
The shiba tilts his head. "Huh? How do you know my name cat?"
Kel huffs. "It's me. Kel. You know. Your owner?"
"You aren't Kel. Kel is a human! Not a cat. That's simple knowledge."
"Yeah, well… I don't know what to tell you then. Just, please believe me. I'm your owner, Kelsey Montoya. Your name is Hector, and your favorite snack is chicken. Does that convince you?"
The dog's tail stops wagging. "Oh. Maybe you are. How are you a cat then?"
"I wish I knew. Do you know?"
Hector hangs his head down. "No. I mean, I've heard of people being reincarnated as animals, but that usually takes a while. So I have no clue!"
Kel sighs.
"Mewo might now. She's a cat."
Kel nods, "you think so?"
Hector nods and runs over to him. "Yes! She's probably inside the pale boy's house!"
